Springer. Texts and Monographs in Symbolic Computation. 2-20
(1997).
"We discussed the question of whether present symbolic computation
systems can truly be considered as "doing mathematics by computer''.
Although our answer was "no'' for the present systems we believe that,
with research directed into appropriate directions, significant progress
will be possible in the near future for making symbolic computation
systems assisting humans more fundamentally when "doing
mathematics''. Various research projects aiming at this goal are under
way worldwide. Partly, they start from computer algebra systems like
Mathematica and move into the direction of incorporating more proving
power. Partly, they start from sophisticated provers and move into the
direction of incorporating more algebraic computation power."
