Air quality measurements were taken using handheld instruments (Multi Gas<br />

Detector and Handheld Aerosol Monitoring) and the following parameters<br />

were measured: CO, carbon dioxide (CO 2), sulphur dioxide (SO 2), Volatile<br />

Organic Compounds (VOC), H 2S, ammonia (NH 3) and Total Suspended<br />

Particulates (TSP). The results of the ambient air quality measurements are<br />

presented in Table 4.3 and Table 4.4 below.<br />

Results of the concentration levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO 2) were taken from<br />

the ambient air quality study conducted for the neighbouring NIPP, during<br />

both the wet season (7 – 12 August 2006). The air sampling was done at two<br />

hour intervals at each sample location for ten hours in the morning, afternoon<br />

and evening periods. A Toxi Rae Single Gas Monitor was used to take the<br />
