• Tender process and awarding of contract for decommissioning and<br />

demolition;<br />

• Removal and disposal of hazardous materials;<br />

• Disassembling equipment and plant;<br />

• Removal of piping, cabling, storage facilities and reusable components;<br />

• Demolition of buildings and breaking up for removal; and<br />

• Site leveling and filling.<br />

7.1.2 Biophysical and Socio-economic Indicators<br />

The primary biophysical indicators for this impact assessment are the<br />

following:<br />

• Climate and meteorology;<br />

• Air quality;<br />

• Noise levels;<br />

• Groundwater;<br />

• Geology and geomorphology;<br />

• Soils and soil erosion;<br />

• Drainage patterns and flooding;<br />

• Unique physical features; and<br />

• Vegetation including economic trees and crops.<br />

The primary socio-economic indicators for this impact assessment are the<br />

following:<br />

• Land use;<br />

• Employment and income;<br />

• Community population and ethnicity;<br />

• Community relations; and<br />

• Services (eg water and electricity supply).<br />

7.2 ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY<br />

This section describes the overall approach used for the assessment of impacts<br />

and the identification of mitigation options. Topic-specific methodologies are<br />

described in the introductory part of each section of the impact assessment. In<br />

general, the assessment of impacts has proceeded through an iterative process<br />

considering four key elements (Figure 7.1).<br />

1. Prediction of potential impacts and their magnitude ie the consequences of<br />

the proposals on the natural and social environment.<br />
