7.2.1 Defining <strong>Impact</strong>s<br />

There are a number of ways that impacts may be described and quantified.<br />

The definitions adopted for this EIA are described in Box 7.1 below.<br />

Definitions of <strong>Impact</strong>s<br />

1. Nature of <strong>Impact</strong>:<br />

An impact is essentially any change to a resource or receptor brought about by the presence of a<br />

project component or by the execution of a project related activity.<br />

Negative – an impact that is considered to represent an adverse change from the baseline or to<br />

introduce a new undesirable factor.<br />

Positive – an impact that is considered to represent an improvement to the baseline or to<br />

introduce a new desirable factor.<br />
