Where significant residual impacts remain, further options for mitigation may
be considered and impacts re-assessed until they are as low as reasonably
practicable for the project.

7.2.1 Defining Impacts
There are a number of ways that impacts may be described and quantified.
The definitions adopted for this EIA are described in Box 7.1 below.
Box 7.1
Definitions of Impacts
1. Nature of Impact:
An impact is essentially any change to a resource or receptor brought about by the presence of a
project component or by the execution of a project related activity.
Negative – an impact that is considered to represent an adverse change from the baseline or to
introduce a new undesirable factor.
Positive – an impact that is considered to represent an improvement to the baseline or to
introduce a new desirable factor.
