The State has the capacity to support major manufacturing and service<br />

industries such as power supply (<strong>Edo</strong> State Government, 2010). As a general<br />

rule, the EDSG does not take shareholding stakes of more than 20 percent in<br />

commercial enterprise. Instead, it helps to facilitate the establishment of<br />

industrial estates by allocating plots of land to private investors.<br />

1.4.7 International Agreements and Conventions<br />

Nigeria is a signatory to a number of international conventions and<br />

agreements relating to industry, development and environmental<br />

management. In certain cases conventions and agreements have influenced<br />

policy, guidelines and regulations and must be complied with during the<br />

planning, construction and operation of the Project.<br />

Table 1.4 lists some of the key relevant international conventions and protocols<br />

to which Nigeria is a signatory. Each convention is briefly described<br />

thereafter.<br />

To achieve stabilisation of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at<br />

a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the<br />

climate system.<br />
