2.03 ACCESSORIES
A. Fasteners and Anchors:
1. Fasteners: Hot-dipped galvanized steel for high humidity and treated wood locations,
unfinished steel elsewhere.
2. Screened soffit vent, to match prefinished aluminum eave.
2.04 FACTORY WOOD TREATMENT
A. Pressure Treatment of Lumber Above Grade: AWPA Treatment C2 using waterborne preservative
to 0.25 percent retention.
1. Kiln dry after treatment to maximum moisture content of 19 percent.
2. Treat wood in contact with roofing, flashing, or waterproofing.
3. Treat wood in contact with masonry or concrete.
2.05 FIRE-RETARDANT-TREATED MATERIALS
A. General: Where fire-retardant-treated materials are indicated, use materials complying with
requirements in this article, that are acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, and with fir-testresponse
characteristics specified as determined by testing identical products per test method
indicated by a qualified testing agency.
B. Fire-Retardant-Treated Lumber and Plywood by Pressure Process: Products with a flame spread
index of 25 or less when tested according to ASTM E 84, and with no evidence of significant
progressive combustion when the test is extended an additional 20 minutes, and with the flame
front not extending more than 10.5 feet beyond the centerline of the burners at any time during the
test.
1. Exterior Type: Treated materials shall comply with requirements specified above for fireretardant-treated
lumber and plywood by pressure process after being subjected to
accelerated weathering according to ASTM D 2898. Use for exterior locations and where
indicated.
2. Interior Type A: Treated materials shall have a moisture content of 28 percent or less when
tested according to ASTM D 3201 at 92 percent relative humidity. Use where exterior type is
not indicated.
C. Kiln-dry lumber after treatment to a maximum moisture content of 19 percent.
D. Identify fire-retardant-treated wood with appropriate classification marking of qualified testing
agency.
E. Application: Treat all rough carpentry and the following:
1. Concealed blocking.
2. Roof construction and trusses.
3. Plywood roof deck and ceiling material.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 FRAMING INSTALLATION
A. Set structural members level, plumb, and true to line. Discard pieces with defects that would lower
required strength or result in unacceptable appearance of exposed members.
B. Make provisions for temporary construction loads, and provide temporary bracing sufficient to
maintain structure in true alignment and safe condition until completion of erection and installation
of permanent bracing.
C. Install structural members full length without splices unless otherwise specifically detailed.
D. Comply with member sizes, spacing, and configurations indicated, and fastener size and spacing
indicated, but not less than required by applicable codes and AFPA WCD 1.
E. Provide miscellaneous members as indicated or as required to support finishes, fixtures, specialty
items, and trim.
