The fatal Attack I then made was on a Gentleman's<br />

Chariot, in which were a Lady and her Daughter, ac-<br />

young Child was frighted, and began to cry, which<br />

gave me fome uneafinefs, the Lady beg'd that I would<br />

put my Piftol up to pacify the Child, and flie would<br />

readily deliver all (he had about her j I comply'd with<br />

lier Requeft, and Ihe gave me I remember a Guinea and<br />

fome Silver, and whilft I receiv'd it, my Hand fhook -<br />

like an old Fellows with the Palfy, and like a clumfey<br />

aukard Fellow, I let fome of the Sih'cr drop on the<br />

Ground^ at the fame Time I faw (he was as well pro-<br />

vided with a Gold Watch, Gold Rings, and other va-<br />

luable Trinkets as a Gentleman under my Circumftan-<br />

ces could reafonably have wi/h'd to meet with, yet like<br />

a modeft Fellow, and a Gentleman of good Manners,<br />

I took my Leave without alking any farther Favours,<br />

than what fhe had readily granted me.<br />

I had like to have forgot one Circuroftance relating<br />

to this Affair, which I think worth obferving: As<br />

foon as I had quitted the Chariot and fet Spurs to<br />

my Horfe, up came the Lady's Husband, and Mifles<br />

Sweatheart {I prefame) to them, who upon Informa-<br />

tion of this Tranfaftion rode to overtake me, and pur-<br />

fued me clofely into the vety Town, but they loft their<br />

Scent at laft, and {uru'd up Leafier-Law, whilit I was
