About two or tliree Days afterwards we were taken up<br />

on Sufpicion, and carry'd before Juftice Kent, who com-<br />

mitted us to the New Goal in Surry, on a ftrong Suf-<br />

picion of having intended to commit the faid Robbery.<br />

When W n fearing it would com.e out, and that f,e<br />

fnould be charg'd therewith, he went to the faid Mr.<br />

Kent and m.ade a Confeflion, which not being fufiicient,<br />

Addifon was admitted an Evidence ; but before the Af-<br />

fizes came on, I with two others made our Efcape out<br />

of the faid Goal and went to France, where I flaid a-<br />

bout feven Da.ys, and then return'd to London, and from<br />

thence to Briftol, where I work'd about fix Weeks; but<br />

not being ea(y I came up to London again,- and ftaid<br />

fome Time ; then I vvent down to Exeter, where I<br />

work'd fome Time ; but not yet being eafy, I came to<br />

a Place called Hivdon near Salisbury, where I v/orked<br />

about a Quarter of a Year; but there being a Robbery<br />

committed, and it being known that I had efcaped out<br />

of Goal, I was talien up on Sufpicion, but nothing ap-<br />

pearing againll me, I was detain'd on Account only of<br />

breaking the Goal, and was brought up to my old Con-<br />

finement, in order to take my Trial ^t Kin-rpon AlH-<br />

zes, where I was acquitted ; and there I became ac-<br />

quainted v/ith Brown and Mite he/; and Broivn liking<br />

my Converfation, fent to Lamheth to fpeak with me at<br />

his Houfe at Paddinglon, where we confulted to rob the<br />

King's Je-iveller, who had a Houfe there ; but being<br />

difappoiuted there, we went to the Houfe of Colonel<br />

Des Romaine, when Broivn open'd the Gate and knock-<br />

ing at the Door, the Colonel came to it, whom we<br />

robb'd of a Watch, Plate and Linnen of Value ; after<br />

we came into the Houfe we ty'd the Colonel, and blind-<br />

folded him at the feme Tiine, he faid, If ymi'lluntie me<br />

I'll open the Locks myfelf, and accordingly he went up<br />

Stairs and did fo ; then we brought him down again<br />

and ty'd liim by the fi'Iaid, and afterwards we rilled the<br />

Houii.', and went from .thence about three .o'Clock in<br />

the Morning. Sojne Days after which, we fwith. I'Ut-<br />
