clean their Ship ; that they would pay for whatever they
were fupply'd with, and that by the Time they liad
clean'd their Ship, they hop'd the Weather would be
warm, and the Seas open for them to proceed on their
Voyage. This Tale was eafy to tell, and probable e-
nough, and therefore likely enough to be believ'd ; and
they all oblig'd themfelves to give the fame Account ex-
aftly, and not to vary the leaft Tittle from it, or fo
much as whifper otherwife, upon Pain of immeJiita
Death.
In Carriftaun Harbour they found a fmall Scots Bark,
——Lumfdak, Mafter, loaden with Wine and Brandy,
and bound about to the Ifle of Man ; this was a wel-
come Thing to them all, and had it been any where
elfe, they would have made it a good Prize ; but as
they had Goods fufficient on Board, and fuch as were
very acceptable Merchandize, Lumfdak traded very free-
ly with them, and Govj bartred feven Cerons of Wax,
and about 200 lb. Weight of Barbaiy Copper with
him for a Hoglhead of Geneva, and an Anchor of
Brandy, and fome other Goods; and it was believ'd
that Goiu had fome Money into the Bargain.
A Day or two after, a Swedijh Veffel came into the
Road bound from Stockholm to Glafgo-w, and laden with
Siuedes Iron, and Eajl Country Plank ; they traded
with her alfo for 20 Coil of new Rope, for which GOIM
gave the Mafter eleven Cerons of Bees Wax : It has
been faid, they plundfer'd this Veflel of feveral other
Goods, and oblig'd the Mafter to promife to fail direft-
ly to his Port, without fpeaking to any Body, on Pain
