Journeyman ; but on the 23d of Olioher 1723, e'er the<br />

Work was compleat, Sheppard took Occafion to rob the<br />

People of the Efftdls following, I'ix. -j I. 10 j. in<br />

Specie, five large Silver Spoons, fx plain Forks ditto,<br />

four Tea Spoons, fix plain Gold Rings, and, a Cypher<br />

Ring, four Suits of Wearing Apparel, bcfides Linnen,<br />

to a confiderable Value. This Faft he confefled to<br />

Sheppard had a Brother nained Thomas, a Carpenter<br />

by Profc-flion, tho' a notorious Thief and Houfe-breaker<br />

by Prsflice. This Thomas being committed to Nevj-<br />

gate for breaking the Houfe of Mrs. Mmy Cook, a Lin-<br />

nen~Draper in Clare-Street, Clare-Market, on the jth<br />

of February, and Healing Goods to the Value of be-<br />

tween 50 and 60 /. he impeach'd his Brother John<br />

Sheppard and Fdgv)orth Befs, as being corcerned with<br />

him in this Faft, and thefe three were alfo charged<br />

with being concerned together in breaking the Houfe of<br />

Mr. William Phillips in Drury-Lane, and Healing divers<br />

Goods, the Property of Mrs. Keiidrick, a Lodger in the<br />

Houfe, on the 14th of the faiu February; all pofTible<br />

Endeavours were ufed by Mrs. Cook and Mr. Phillips, to<br />

get John Sheppard and Edgnxorth Befs apprehended,<br />

but to no Purpofe, till the following Accident.<br />

Sheppard Win now upon his wicked Range in London,<br />

committing Robberies every where at Difcretion ; but<br />

one Day meeting with his Acquaintance James Sykes,<br />

alias Hell and Fury, fometimes a Chair-man, and at<br />

others a Running Foot-man. This Sykes invited him<br />

to go to one Redgate''s, a Viftualling-Houfe near the<br />

Se'ven Dials, to play at Skettles, Sheppard comply'd,<br />

and Sykes fecretly fent for Mr. Price a Conftable in St.<br />

Gileses Parifti, and charg'd with his Friend Sheppard,<br />

for robbing of Mrs. Cook, Sec. Sheppard was carried be-<br />

fore Juftice Parry, who ordered him to St. G//«'s<br />
