Ix)ck, there I had like to have ftop'd, and it being full
dark my Spirits began to fail me, as greatly doubting of
fucceed'ing ; but cheering up, I wrought on with great
Diligence, and in lefs than half an Hour, with the
main Help of the Nail from tlie Red-Room, and the
Spike from the Chapel, wrench'd the Box off, and fo
made the Door my humble Servant.
A little farther in my Paflbge another ftout Door
flood in my Way, and this was a Difficulty with a
Witnefs, being guarded with more Bolts, Bars, and
Locks, than any I had hitherto met with ; I had by
this Time great Encouragement, as hoping foon to be
rewarded for all this Toil and Labour. The Clock at
St. Sepulchre's was now going the eighth Hour, and this
as knowing that the fmalleft Accident would ftill fpoil
the whole Workmanfnip, and was doubtful on which of
the Houfes I &ould alight. I found I iruift go back for
the Blanket which had been my Covering o'Nights in
the Caftle, which I accordingly did, and enueavour'd to
fallen my Stockings and that together, to leifen my Def-
cent, but wanted Neceffaries fo to do, and was there-
fore forc'd to make Ufe of the Blanket alone. I fix'd
the fame with the Chapel Spike into the Wall of Neiv-
gate, and dropt from it on the Turner's Leads, a Houfe
adjoining to the Prifon ; 'twas then about nine o'Clock,
and the Shops not yet fhut in. It fortunately bappen'd
