When alked if he had not put off all Thoughts of aa
Efcape, and entertain'd none but thofe of Death ? would
anfvver by way of Queftion, not direftly. Whether they

When in Chapel he would feemingly make his Re-
fponfes with Devotion, but would either laugh, or force
Expreffions, when (as an Auditor of the Sermon) out of
Contempt either of the Preacher, or of his Difcourfe.
In fine, he behav'd fo in Word and Adiion, (fmce
re-taken) that demonltrated to the World, that his Ef-
cape was the utmoft Employ of his Thoughts, what-
ever Face of Penitence he put on when vifited by the
Curious.
