That Tho. Billings then in Company faid, that if Mr.<br />

Hayes would then drink half a Guineas worth of Wine<br />

and not be fuddled, he would pay for it ; that Hayes<br />

agreed, they each put down half a Guinea, and that<br />

Catherine Hayes, Tho. Billings, and this Examinant,<br />

went out about four o'Clock in the Afternoon, on<br />

the Day aforefaid, to Bond-Jireet, and brought in with<br />

' turn'd about half the Wine was drank, and Mr.<br />

' Hayes began to be very merry, and danced about the<br />

' Room, and faid he thought he ftiould not have Wine<br />

' enough to make him fuddled ; on which fho. Billings<br />

'• went out by himfelf and fetch'd anotlier Bottle of<br />

' Wine, and when he had drank that, he began to reel<br />

about the R.oom, and went and laid down on the Bi'd<br />

' in the back Room : That Tho. Billings follow'd him<br />

• into the faid Room, and there with a Hatchet ftruck<br />

' him on the back Part of his Head, which Blow, he,<br />

• this Examinant heard given, and went into the Room,-<br />

• and found Mr. Hayes dead; and that Mrs. Hayes iin-<br />

' mediately follow'd this Examinant and faid. We inuft<br />

' take off his Head and make it a-vcay, or it ivill hetrav<br />

' us ; and that then Catherine Hayes, Tho. Billings, find<br />

' this Examinant, with the Examinant's Pocket Knife<br />

' cut off Mr. Hayes\ Head, about eight o'Clock at<br />

' Night, on the Day aforefaid, and then put it into a<br />

' Pail without a Bail ; and Tho. Billings, and this Exa-<br />

' minant, carry'd the Pail with the Head in it to the<br />
