to the Comptei; and at tlie Seflions held at Guild-Hall'm
Oaober 1733, I was trit-d for putting off three counter-
feit Half-Crowns, knowing them to be fuch, and Beino-
found Guilty, was fined 20 Marks, to fuffer twelve
Months Imprifonment, and committed to Ne-iAJ^ate,
where I lay from Oilober 1733, to the latter End of
No'vember, when a Gentleman commifcrating my Con-
dition, being unable to pay my Fine, and the I'ime of
my Imprifonment {according'to my Sentence) being ex-
pir'd, he was fo charitable, as to endeavour by his In-
tereft and Application, to get the Fine mitigated, upon
ipy Promife to go to Sea on my Difcharge, which I
abfolutely promifed I would, but when I had obtained
my Liberty, I foon entcrtain'd other Thoughts; for ia
January (being about fix Weeks after my Difcharga as
aforefaid) I committed the Robbery for which I am ncfw
under Sentence.
It was reported about the Neighbourhood where I
liv'd, that my Wife was with me when I committed
this Robbery, and likewife perfuaded me to take the
Show-Glafs away, and advlfmg and affilling me in the
Commiffion of the Faft for which I am to fuffer. As
I am a dying Man, ftie was no ways privy thereto, or
Affiftant therein, nor was any Perfon with me when I
took it, for at that Time I committed this Robbery for
which I am to fuffer, fiie had been confined to her Room
by a dangeroas Sickhefs for the Space of three Weeks.
In order to do her the Juftice ihe deferves, and to pre-
vent thofe Afpcrfions which may be otherways thrown
upon her, I muff freely own that fhe was continually
intreating me to refrain from all loofe and vicious Com-
pany, and to forfake my wicked Courfe of Life, and
as conflantly as I went out, defir'd me to be cautious
what Company I fell into, and to be particularly care-
ful of myfelf; and if I hadobferv'd her goodCounfe],
I might have avoided this fliameful Death I am now to
fuffer.
The only Reafon v/hich induced me to give the
above Account of my Robberies was, that I was very
fenfible
