cytokinins. We found that they differed also in the responses of antioxidative enzymes, particularly
of ascorbate peroxidase, glutathione reductase, catalase and superoxide dismutase, to various abiotic
stresses (enhanced concentration of ZnSO 4 , salination, and drought). No marked changes in activity
of antioxidative enzymes in response to stresses were observed in radish, where cytokinins are
preferentially inactivated by N-glucosylation. On the contrary, significant changes in activities of
antioxidative enzymes were found in tobacco, where cytokinins are predominantly degraded by
cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase. These results suggest a possible relation between the way of
cytokinin metabolism and the response of antioxidative enzymatic system to stresses.
