Effect of cadmium on Vigna radiata in two different stages of ontogenetically development

Summary
Cadmium inhibited development of mung bean seedlings in a loss of shoot dry mass from 0,7
± 0,42 to 8,2 ± 0,77 mg in 1 st growth stage (10 days old plants) and from 14,4 ± 9,31 to 61,8 ± 1,42
mg in 2 nd growth stage (20 days old plants), and root dry mass from 0,2 ± 0,24 to 1,7 ± 0,24 mg in
1 st growth stage, and from 6,2 ± 0,52 to 9,1 ± 1,36 mg in 2 nd growth stage. Cd application
decreased photochemical activity of chloroplasts in both, with ED 50 in “in vivo” conditions 20 and
26 μmol.l -1 and in “in vitro” conditions 240 and 2008 μmol.l -1 dependant on growth stage, with
more response in “in vivo” conditions. The leaves of treated plants possessed lower content of both
chlorophylls a and b in both development stages. Cd accumulated in great extent into the roots than
into the shoots.
