Summary<br />

Electrochemical analysis of phytochelatins<br />

Key words – phytochelatins, electrochemical detection, tobacco cells, cadmium.<br />

Phytochelatins are low molecular peptides abounding in plants. Protection of plants against heavy metals and<br />

maintaining of ions homeostasis are the main biological function of them in plants. Electrochemical techniques<br />

is possible to use for detection of the phytochelatins because contain high amounts of sulfhydryl groups. It<br />

clearly follows from the obtained results that it is possible to determine the phytochelatins by modified Brdička<br />

reaction. In addition it was possible to study the changes of phytochelatins content in BY-2 tobacco cells treated<br />

by different concentrations of Cd-EDTA.<br />
