Assessment of sensitivity of wheat genotypes photosynthetic<br />

apparatus to water stress<br />

Summary<br />

Breeding for drought tolerance is still very difficult. The possible way is application of appropriate<br />

physiological selection traits and techniques. Therefore it is neces<strong>sa</strong>ry to identify differences<br />

between susceptible and tolerant genotypes using fast and reliable methods. In high producing<br />

genotypes of winter wheat we evaluated their sensitivity to water deficit in leaves using technique<br />

of rapid chlorophyll fluorescence measurement and data analysis by JIP-test. Water status in leaves<br />

was measured as relative water content and water potential. Wheat cultivars showed different<br />

reactions to water deficit Each variety showed typical correlation between water potential or RWC<br />

and selected parameters of chlorophyll fluorescence. These relationships could be potentially used<br />

as a good selective trait for drought toleranc<br />
