Stress and adaptation of plants to high salt concentrations.
Key words: salinity – halophyte – halomorphic – haloxeromorhic – solonchak - slanec
Summary
During expeditions on plant germplasm gathering organized by the Czech Gene Bank to Asia since
the beginning of 90ies, extreme localities of plants were studied. Sites influenced by a high
concentration of salts belong to the botanically most interesting. A review of soils influenced by salts
is provided. Halophytes were characterized together with halomorphic, xeromorphic structures and
their interediate jejich forms. Physiologic action of salinity is described. In the field, herbarium
specimens were collected, plants determined and species noted. Zonality of stressor influence and
presence of plant indicators tolerating particular salt concentration were studied.Anthropic influence
on soil deterioration by salts is discussed.
