Overview<br />

Concept<br />

Our objective is to introduce a safety concept comprising the<br />

SIMOTION D motion controller, a sin/cos encoder equipped<br />

with encoder module SMx20 and a fail-safe SIMATIC S7-F controller,<br />

which has been designed to implement the following<br />

safety functions using an encoder system:<br />

■ Safe standstill<br />

■ Safely limited speed<br />

■ Safe operating stop (standstill monitoring)<br />

■ Safe shutdown (via Stop categories)<br />

In this concept, the Simatic F-CPU controller - equipped<br />

with the function block "F_DRIVE" certified according to<br />

DIN EN 954-1 and IEC 61508 - monitors the above-mentioned<br />

drive functions and activates the "Safe standstill" (SH) resp.<br />

Safe Torque Off (STO) safety function in the drive each time<br />

that a monitoring threshold is violated in order to bring the<br />

drive into a safe state.<br />
