Holman, Mary Elizabeth (Storey) was born July 30, 1907 in <strong>Hanover</strong> Township and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> James Edward and Elizabeth Jane (Speer) Storey. Mary married<br />

Fredrick “Fred” Gaylord Holman on October 22, 1927 in Galena and four sons were<br />

born to this union: John Gaylord Holman, Robert Edward Holman, Kenneth Fredrick<br />

Holman, and James Richard Holman. They lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a time and later moved<br />

to Galena. Mary died April 10, 1989 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena.<br />

Holman, Robert Edward was born November 13, 1936 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Fredrick “Fred” Gaylord and Mary Elizabeth (Storey) Holman. He served in the U.S.<br />

Army in Germany in the late 1950s. He married Deniece Jo Ann Smith on February 28,<br />

1982 in Galena and this union gave him one son: Kevin Barry Klotz. Robert was<br />

employed at John Deere in Dubuque until he retired in February 1992. Robert died<br />

September 14, 1997 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena.<br />

Holmbo, Arthur Oscar was born November 22, 1911 in Beloit, Wisconsin and was the<br />

son <strong>of</strong> Joseph and Nellie (Geselson) Holmbo. He married Verna Louise Steele on<br />

September 21, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa and three sons were born to this union: James<br />

Thomas Holmbo, Stanley Arthur Holmbo, and Roger William Holmbo. Art was a<br />

construction worker for many years. After he retired he operated Art’s Embassy Club in<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> from 1966 until the late 1970s. Art died October 1, 1985 and is buried in<br />

Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Holmbo, Verna Louise (Steele) was born September 19, 1918 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Arthur Edwin and Minnie Elvira (Thomas) Steele. She graduated from<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1937 and from the Illinois School <strong>of</strong> Beauty. She married<br />

Arthur Oscar Holmbo September 21, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa and three sons were born<br />

to this union: James Thomas Holmbo, Stanley Arthur Holmbo, and Roger William<br />

Hombo. Verna died July 14, 1992 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Holt, Frank Coburn was born November 3, 1905 in Elburn, Illinois and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

the Reverend Enos and Carrie Edith (Shepherd) Holt. The family moved to <strong>Hanover</strong> in<br />

1921 when his father became the minister at the United Methodist Church. Frank<br />

graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1923; he attended DePaul University for three<br />

years, and graduated from the University <strong>of</strong> Arizona in 1927. He married Lucy Emily<br />

Chatham on June 6, 1928 in Nogales, Arizona and two children were born to this union:<br />

Thomas F. Holt and NanJean (Holt) Bayer. He joined the teaching staff at San Luis<br />

Obispo High School in California in 1928 and also coached football, basketball, and<br />

track and field. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War <strong>II</strong>. He returned to San<br />

Luis Obispo High School and became the principal <strong>of</strong> the night school in 1948 and at<br />

the high school in 1952. He retired in 1967 and remained very active in San Luis<br />

Obispo. In 1970 the San Luis Obispo High School football field was named Frank Holt<br />

Field and in November 1999 he received the first-ever “Distinguished Citizen Award”<br />

from the University <strong>of</strong> Arizona Alumni Association. His wife Lucy was born June 30,<br />

1903 in Nogales, Arizona and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> James J. and Mary Lillian<br />

(Chenoweth) Chatham, she died February 18, 1977. Frank died March 13, 2000 in San<br />

Luis Obispo; he and his wife are buried in Los Osos Memorial Park.<br />
