Philpot, Hazel LaVonne (Read) was born May 22, 1925 in Elizabeth, Illinois and was
the daughter of Wesley Garfield and Mabel Estella (Bowden) Read. She married James
“Jim” Truman Philpot on October 6, 1951 in Rockton, Illinois and one daughter was
born to this union: Nancy (Philpot) Noel. The family lived in Hanover for a time and
later moved back to Elizabeth. Hazel was a registered nurse and worked at the Savanna
Army Depot until her retirement. Hazel died August 1, 1991 and is buried in the
Elizabeth Cemetery.
Philpot, James “Jim” Truman was born September 3, 1925 in rural Elizabeth, Illinois
and was the son of Orville and Genevieve (Cahill) Philpot. He graduated from
Elizabeth High School in 1943. Jim was a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran. He
married Hazel LaVonne Read on October 6, 1951 in Rockton, Illinois and one daughter
was born to this union: Nancy (Philpot) Noel. They lived in Hanover for a few years
before they moved to Elizabeth. Jim worked at the Savanna Army Depot as an
electrician until he retired in 1980. Jim died February 20, 2010 and is buried in
Elizabeth Cemetery.
Pierce, Mason H. was born January 20, 1904 in Stockton, Illinois and was the son of
Harvey Wesley and Lottie Marian (Weir) Pierce. He moved to Hanover in 1928 and
purchased a furniture and undertaking business. Mason married Helen Barnes in August
1929 in Hanover and one son was born to this union: Robert Pierce. He sold his funeral
business in 1939 and the family moved to Wheaton, Illinois. Mason died August 14,
1989 in Clearwater, Florida; he was cremated and buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Pilcher, Duane was born June 23, 1924 in Hanover Township and was the son of
Zebulon “Zeb” and Lola (Dean) Pilcher. He was married to the former Betty Wand.
Duane lived in Red Bluff, California. He died in Red Bluff on October 17, 1980.
Pittman, Mary Alice (Finley) was born February 1, 1935 and was the daughter of
Andrew “Andy” Walker and Anna Marie (Hunt) Finley. The family moved to Hanover
in 1949 and Mary Alice graduated from Hanover High School in 1952. Mary Alice
married Stanley G. Pittman Sr. in the late 1950s and they adopted three children:
Stanley G. Pittman, Keith Pittman, and Leslie Pittman. The family lived in New
Martinsville, West Virginia for many years. Mary Alice died February 8, 1996.
Plews, Barbara W. (Willson) was born September 17, 1903 in Illinois and was the
daughter of Andrew Elliott and Mabel W. (Winter) Willson. She graduated from
Hanover High School in 1920. Barbara married Lester William Plews and one known
daughter was born to this union: Barbara V. Plews. In 1930 the family was living in
Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her husband Lester was born in 1900 and died in 1952.
Barbara died on December 30, 1955 in Los Angeles, California.
Plosch, George Albert was born November 3, 1912 in Derinda Township, Jo Daviess
County and was the son of John and Annie M. (Wuster) Plosch. He farmed in rural
Hanover all of his life. George died May 13, 2006 and is buried in Trinity Lutheran
Church Cemetery, Derinda.
Poffenberger, Elizabeth A. (Dunn) was born September 12, 1923 in Savanna, Illinois
and was the daughter of Joseph F. and Alice V. (Clay) Dunn. She was a payroll
supervisor at the Savanna Army Depot for 33 years when she retired in 1982. Elizabeth
later moved to Hanover and worked part-time in her brother’s café in Hanover.
