Wheatland, Iowa and she died there on October 5, 1989. She is buried in West Liberty,<br />

Philpot, Hazel LaVonne (Read) was born May 22, 1925 in Elizabeth, Illinois and was<br />

the daughter <strong>of</strong> Wesley Garfield and Mabel Estella (Bowden) Read. She married James<br />

“Jim” Truman Philpot on October 6, 1951 in Rockton, Illinois and one daughter was<br />

born to this union: Nancy (Philpot) Noel. The family lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a time and<br />

later moved back to Elizabeth. Hazel was a registered nurse and worked at the Savanna<br />

Army Depot until her retirement. Hazel died August 1, 1991 and is buried in the<br />

Elizabeth Cemetery.<br />

Philpot, James “Jim” Truman was born September 3, 1925 in rural Elizabeth, Illinois<br />

and was the son <strong>of</strong> Orville and Genevieve (Cahill) Philpot. He graduated from<br />

Elizabeth High School in 1943. Jim was a U.S. Navy World War <strong>II</strong> Veteran. He<br />

married Hazel LaVonne Read on October 6, 1951 in Rockton, Illinois and one daughter<br />

was born to this union: Nancy (Philpot) Noel. They lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a few years<br />

before they moved to Elizabeth. Jim worked at the Savanna Army Depot as an<br />

electrician until he retired in 1980. Jim died February 20, 2010 and is buried in<br />

Elizabeth Cemetery.<br />

Pierce, Mason H. was born January 20, 1904 in Stockton, Illinois and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Harvey Wesley and Lottie Marian (Weir) Pierce. He moved to <strong>Hanover</strong> in 1928 and<br />

purchased a furniture and undertaking business. Mason married Helen Barnes in August<br />

1929 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and one son was born to this union: Robert Pierce. He sold his funeral<br />

business in 1939 and the family moved to Wheaton, Illinois. Mason died August 14,<br />

1989 in Clearwater, Florida; he was cremated and buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Pilcher, Duane was born June 23, 1924 in <strong>Hanover</strong> Township and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Zebulon “Zeb” and Lola (Dean) Pilcher. He was married to the former Betty Wand.<br />

Duane lived in Red Bluff, California. He died in Red Bluff on October 17, 1980.<br />

Pittman, Mary Alice (Finley) was born February 1, 1935 and was the daughter <strong>of</strong><br />

Andrew “Andy” Walker and Anna Marie (Hunt) Finley. The family moved to <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

in 1949 and Mary Alice graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1952. Mary Alice<br />

married Stanley G. Pittman Sr. in the late 1950s and they adopted three children:<br />

Stanley G. Pittman, Keith Pittman, and Leslie Pittman. The family lived in New<br />

Martinsville, West Virginia for many years. Mary Alice died February 8, 1996.<br />

Plews, Barbara W. (Willson) was born September 17, 1903 in Illinois and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Andrew Elliott and Mabel W. (Winter) Willson. She graduated from<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1920. Barbara married Lester William Plews and one known<br />

daughter was born to this union: Barbara V. Plews. In 1930 the family was living in<br />

Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her husband Lester was born in 1900 and died in 1952.<br />

Barbara died on December 30, 1955 in Los Angeles, California.<br />

Plosch, George Albert was born November 3, 1912 in Derinda Township, Jo Daviess<br />

County and was the son <strong>of</strong> John and Annie M. (Wuster) Plosch. He farmed in rural<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> all <strong>of</strong> his life. George died May 13, 2006 and is buried in Trinity Lutheran<br />

Church Cemetery, Derinda.<br />

P<strong>of</strong>fenberger, Elizabeth A. (Dunn) was born September 12, 1923 in Savanna, Illinois<br />

and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Joseph F. and Alice V. (Clay) Dunn. She was a payroll<br />

supervisor at the Savanna Army Depot for 33 years when she retired in 1982. Elizabeth<br />

later moved to <strong>Hanover</strong> and worked part-time in her brother’s café in <strong>Hanover</strong>.
