Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Schlicting, Fern was born March 23, 1916 in Thompson Township, Jo Daviess County<br />
and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Ernest and Louisa “Lizzie” (Schultz) Schlicting. She lived in<br />
<strong>Hanover</strong> for a number <strong>of</strong> years. Fern died March 8, 1986 and is buried in the Schapville<br />
Lutheran Cemetery.<br />
Schmid, Carolyn “Chip” Ann (Hazel) was born May 19, 1938 in Freeport, Illinois and<br />
was the daughter <strong>of</strong> John Herbert and Arlie Mae (Thomas) Hazel. Chip graduated from<br />
<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1956. She married Frank L. Schmid on September 14, 1957 in<br />
Galena and four children were born to this union: Victoria Schmid, Blaine Schmid, Joel<br />
Schmid, and Derek Schmid. Chip lived in Rockford for more than 30 years and was<br />
employed for 17 years as a GI lab technician for Rockford Health Systems, retiring in<br />
1996. She was also the owner <strong>of</strong> Castlewood Kennels. Chip died February 9, 1998 in<br />
Rockford.<br />
Schmidt, Alta Mae (France) was born May 25, 1925 in Abilene, Kansas and was the<br />
daughter <strong>of</strong> Allen and Alta Mae (Morris) France. She married Anton “Tony” Schmidt<br />
on January 10, 1948 in Abilene and two children were born to this union: Henry<br />
“Hank” Allen Schmidt and Margaret “Maggie” Marie (Schmidt) Richmond. The family<br />
lived in South Dakota for a number <strong>of</strong> years before they moved to <strong>Hanover</strong> in 1966.<br />
Alta was a housewife and a babysitter for many children in <strong>Hanover</strong>. Alta died June 4,<br />
2010 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Schmidt, Anton “Tony” was born August 7, 1924 in Trail City, South Dakota and was<br />
the son <strong>of</strong> Ludwig L. and Clara M. (Lacher) Schmidt. Tony was a World War <strong>II</strong><br />
Veteran. He married Alta Mae France on January 10, 1948 in Abilene, Kansas and two<br />
children were born to this union: Henry “Hank” Allen Schmidt and Margaret “Maggie”<br />
Marie (Schmidt) Richmond. He worked as a warehouseman and ammunition inspector<br />
at the Black Hills Army Depot in Igloo, South Dakota until he transferred to the<br />
Savanna Army Depot in 1966 and the family lived in <strong>Hanover</strong>. Tony retired in 1980<br />
after working for the government for 35 years. Tony died February 7, 1992 and is<br />
buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Schmidt, Donald Eugene was born January 20, 1959 in Tilden, Nebraska and was the<br />
son <strong>of</strong> Elmer and Carol (Bellar) Schmidt. He served in the U.S. Navy for seven years.<br />
He worked five years for the North Chicago Water Treatment Plant and was also a<br />
motorcycle mechanic. Donald married Mary Rose Holland on July 21, 1995 in Galena<br />
and this union gave him two stepdaughters: Samantha Bauer and Diane Deras. He was<br />
living in <strong>Hanover</strong> at the time <strong>of</strong> his death on September 9, 2001. Cremation rites were<br />
accorded.<br />
Schneider, Eleanor Virginia (Hopkins) was born August 26, 1910 in Sterling, Illinois<br />
and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> James Polk and Bertha (Ingram) Hopkins. She graduated from<br />
Sterling High School in 1928. Eleanor married Leo Leroy Schneider on October 4,<br />
1936 in Galena and two children were born to this union: Susan Lee (Schneider)<br />
Eversoll and Stephen James Schneider. Leo’s job with the U.S. government took the<br />
family to many places in the United States and Europe and they lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a<br />
number <strong>of</strong> years before moving to Mt. Carroll. Eleanor died September 2, 2005 and is<br />
buried in Riverside Cemetery, Sterling.<br />
Schneider, Leo Leroy was born December 31, 1911 in Rock Falls, Illinois and was the<br />
son <strong>of</strong> Elmer and Louise (VanVeVenter) Schneider. He married Eleanor Virginia<br />
