graduated from Loras College, Dubuque in 1950 and later attended the University <strong>of</strong><br />
Wisconsin, Madison and Bradley University, Peoria; receiving a master’s degree from<br />
Loras College. Bert first taught school in Long Hollow country school from 1950 until<br />
1952 and then began teaching in the <strong>Hanover</strong> School, where he became principal in<br />
1967. He retired from his educational career in 1984. Bert married Nora Lou Ballein on<br />
June 12, 1956 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and four children were born to this union: Erin Patricia<br />
Murphy, Michael Joseph Murphy, Sean Timothy Murphy, and Kevin James Murphy.<br />
Bert died September 11, 2009 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Murphy, Jean Louise (Reifsteck) was born December 24, 1935 and was the daughter<br />
<strong>of</strong> Clyde Limage and Dorothy Mae (Williams) Reifsteck. She attended school in<br />
<strong>Hanover</strong>. Jean was married a few times before she married Harry Haller and later<br />
marrying Edward Murphy. Jean had five children: Michael Haller, Zachary Haller,<br />
Brett Haller, Heidi Lyles, and Heather Charette. Jean was living in Bloomington,<br />
Minnesota when she died on June 27, 2003.<br />
Murphy, Mary Ellen “Peg” (Miller) was born July 22, 1922 in rural Elizabeth, Illinois<br />
and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Edward Steven and Hazel Hannah (Harkness) Miller. She<br />
graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1940. Peg married Robert “Bob” Gerald<br />
Murphy on June 15, 1941 in Clinton, Iowa and four children were born to this union:<br />
Gerald Robert Murphy, “Jack” Alva Marion Murphy, Sharon Kay (Murphy) Holmbo,<br />
and Janet Mae (Murphy) Altensey. She worked at the Savanna Army Depot during<br />
World War <strong>II</strong>, waitressed at Joe’s Café in <strong>Hanover</strong>, and later worked at Eaton<br />
Corporation for 22 years before she retired. Peg died May 2, 2003 and is buried in<br />
Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Murphy, Robert “Bob” Gerald was born July 9, 1919 in Browerville, Minnesota and<br />
was the son <strong>of</strong> Raleigh Albert and Luella Mae (Sanborn) Murphy. He was a World War<br />
<strong>II</strong> U.S. Army Veteran. Bob married Mary Ellen “Peg” E. Miller on June 15, 1941 in<br />
Clinton, Iowa and four children were born to this union: Gerald Robert Murphy, “Jack”<br />
Alva Marion Murphy, Sharon Kay (Murphy) Holmbo, and Janet Mae (Murphy)<br />
Altensey. He was a retired driver from the Savanna Army Depot. Bob died July 9,<br />
1988 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Musselman, Mildred Audrey (Harkness) Mason Taylor was born June 25, 1908 in<br />
<strong>Hanover</strong> and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Mary Ada (Harkness) Potter. She married Earl V.<br />
Mason in 1932 and one son was born to this union: Lawrence “Larry” Coleman Mason.<br />
After Earl’s death she married George Taylor and one son was born to this union: Gayle<br />
Ellis Taylor. Mildred and George divorced and she married Ralph Henry Musselman<br />
on October 15, 1945 in Mount Carroll. Mildred worked at the <strong>Hanover</strong> Woolen Mill, the<br />
Savanna Army Depot, and also as a waitress. She lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for many years<br />
before moving to Savanna in her later years. Mildred died June 9, 2005; she was<br />
cremated and buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Musselman, Milton “Milt” Henry was born November 1, 1921 in Thompson<br />
Township, Jo Daviess County and was the son <strong>of</strong> Henry H. and Esther M. (Grebner)<br />
Musselman. He was a World War <strong>II</strong> U.S. Army Veteran and was awarded the Bronze<br />
Star. He was a farmer in the Woodbine area and also worked at Sullivan’s Hardware in<br />
<strong>Hanover</strong> until his retirement in 1992. Milt died March 15, 1995 and is buried in<br />
Evergreen Cemetery.
