Smith, Doris Marguritte was born June 20, 1920 in Galena, Illinois and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> George J. and Carrie E. (Bauer) Smith. She spent her early life in Galena<br />

and for many years was a nurse in Elgin, Illinois. After retiring she spent several years<br />

with her sister, Janaan Douvikas in <strong>Hanover</strong>. Doris died September 28, 2005.<br />

Smith, Ella Mary (Paisley) was born April 30, 1890 in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Alexander Pinkney and Cora Ella (Campbell) Paisley. She married John<br />

Lewis Smith and three sons were born to this union: John Leland Smith and two other<br />

sons who died in infancy. Ella died October 31, 1982 and is buried in Evergreen<br />

Cemetery.<br />

Smith, Frederick “Fred” Carl was born October 21, 1915 in <strong>Was</strong>hington Township,<br />

Carroll County, Illinois and was the son <strong>of</strong> Frederick Christian and Sophia Marie<br />

(Saltow) Smith. Fred enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps at the Mississippi<br />

Palisades State Park in 1934 and later worked on the CB& Q Railroad. He was a World<br />

War <strong>II</strong> U.S. Army Veteran. Fred married Ursula Mary Ann Fishler on April 27, 1954 in<br />

Savanna and three children were born to this union: Robert Carl Smith, Mary Ann<br />

Smith, and Alice Marie Smith. The family moved from Savanna to <strong>Hanover</strong> in 1955<br />

and Fred worked at the Savanna Army Depot for 37 years before he retired. Fred died<br />

February 11, 2001 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Smith, Jeanne (Klingberg) was born October 16, 1918 in Spring Valley, Illinois and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Arthur and Amelila Alice (Moeller) Klingberg. She married Donald<br />

Frederick Smith on February 14, 1938 in Spring Valley and two children were born to<br />

this union: Ge<strong>of</strong>frey Smith and Janine (Smith) Leonard. She was a beautician for 20<br />

years. She lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a time before moving to Elizabeth. Jeanne died July 30,<br />

1988 and is buried in Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, Dixon.<br />

Smith, John Leland was born November 17, 1927 in Freeport, Illinois and was the son<br />

<strong>of</strong> John Lewis and Ella Mary (Paisley) Smith. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-<br />

47. John married Norma Lucille Beyer on December 28, 1946 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and no<br />

children were born to this union. He was the chief <strong>of</strong> the Programs and Control Office<br />

at the Defense Ammunition Center & School at the Savanna Army Depot when he<br />

retired in 1989 after working there for 40 years. He lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a number <strong>of</strong><br />

years before moving to Savanna. John died August 19, 1991 and is buried in St. John’s<br />

Lutheran Cemetery, Massbach.<br />

Smith, Lucille Jenny (Harter) was born October 12, 1918 in Galena, Illinois and was<br />

the daughter <strong>of</strong> Winfred Francis and Angeline P. (Strong) Harter. She married<br />

Raymond Smith on April 13, 1936 in <strong>Hanover</strong>. She had worked at Chestnut Mountain<br />

Lodge for many years. Her husband Raymond died on June 3, 1981. She later moved<br />

to Freeport and died there on June 20, 2002 and is buried in Lena Burial Park.<br />

Smith, Myrtle Ann (McKinley) was born February 14, 1907 in Derinda Township, Jo<br />

Daviess County and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> the Reverend John Marshall and Frances<br />

Catherine (Parker) McKinley. She graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1925.<br />

Myrtle married Dr. Tjark Jackson Edwin Smith on August 28, 1929 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and two
