Brokaw, Mildred Letitia (Speer) was born March 21, 1910 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> George Edwin and Ada Louisa (Steele) Speer. She graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

High School in 1928 and later graduated from Monmouth College. She married Allen<br />

Vandevere Brokaw on December 9, 1944 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and two children were born to this<br />

union: Leonard Edwin Brokaw and Louise Ann Brokaw. Mildred was a schoolteacher<br />

and began her teaching in a country school in Jo Daviess County. She taught in Viola,<br />

Galena, and Sterling High Schools, and taught fourth grade in Elizabeth and <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

for many years. Mildred died October 7, 1992 and is buried in Log Church Cemetery.<br />

Brown, Gwenn V. was born November 29, 1936 in Freeport, Illinois and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Ellsworth and Lenice (Miller) Brown. He graduated from Warren High School in 1958.<br />

He married Jean Ann Harkness on July 10, 1958 in Dubuque, Iowa and eight daughters<br />

were born to this union: Pamela K. (Brown) Heck, Judith L. (Brown) Pope, Kathryn<br />

(Brown) Springer, Sandra M. (Brown) Jones, Sharon L. Brown, Kimberly S. Brown,<br />

Teresa E. (Brown) Eichmeier, and Gwendolen Brown. Gwenn worked as a tree trimmer<br />

for a couple <strong>of</strong> years before starting his 38-year career with the Illinois Chicago Central<br />

Railroad. He lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a number <strong>of</strong> years before moving to Freeport.<br />

Gwenn died August 30, 2008 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Brown, James Eugene was born May 22, 1932 in Freeport, Illinois and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Harry Charles and Helen Irene (Sutterlin) Brown. He married Miss Dole in December<br />

1956 and five children were born to this union: Michael Brown, Kevin Brown, Patrick<br />

Brown, and two other children. James lived in Freeport before moving to <strong>Hanover</strong>. He<br />

died June 28, 1986 when his body was found in the Mississippi north <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Savanna/Sabula Bridge, an apparent drowning victim.<br />

Brown, Karen E. (Junk) was born January 3, 1943 in Cassville, Wisconsin and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Alois J. and Sylvia Margaret (Schmidt) Junk. She graduated from Cassville<br />

High School in 1960. Karen married Ralph J. Brown Sr. on July 7, 1962 in <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

and four children were born to this union: Ralph Brown Jr., Ronald Brown, Rodney<br />

Brown, and Lisa Jo Brown. They farmed in the <strong>Hanover</strong> area until moving to<br />

Shullsburg, Wisconsin in 1969, where they farmed until 1992. Karen was a<br />

receptionist/bookkeeper for Reilly Plumbing and Heating. Karen died June 30, 1997<br />

and is buried in St. Matthew’s Cemetery, Shullsburg.<br />

Brown, Lillian Sylvia (Moen) was born December 8, 1922 in Waukon, Iowa and was<br />

the daughter <strong>of</strong> Edwin Julius and Caroline (Hagen) Moen. She married Guy Arthur<br />

Brown on April 1, 1942 and one son was born to this union: Richard “Dick” Walter<br />

Brown. Lillian died May 7, 1980 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Brown, Madonna “Donna” Louise (Limage) was born September 8, 1944 in<br />

Dubuque, Iowa and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Donald LeClair and Agnes Betty Lou (Coyle)<br />

Limage. She graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1962 and continued her education<br />

at the University <strong>of</strong> Wisconsin at Platteville and Northern Illinois University at De Kalb.<br />

Donna married Richard “Dick” Walter Brown on July 25, 1963 and two children were<br />

born to this union: Boyd William Brown and Kerry Lynn (Brown) Wild. She was a<br />

schoolteacher at River Ridge School District, where she taught kindergarten and second<br />

grade from 1970 until her death. Donna died January 3, 2000 and cremation rites were<br />

accorded.<br />

Bruckner, Lloyd Morse was born April 24, 1920 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and<br />

was the son <strong>of</strong> Frank and Flora Jane (Shaw) Bruckner. Lloyd was a World War <strong>II</strong> U.S.<br />
