Ellsworth died August 7, 1966, and Elsie married Ralph C. Virtue on September 20,<br />
1975. Ralph died December 1, 1997. Elsie worked at Metzgers Grocery and East Side<br />
Grocery in Galena prior to her retirement. Elsie died May 27, 1998 and is buried in<br />
Greenwood Cemetery.<br />
Virtue, Genevieve Mildred (Virtue) was born April 28, 1916 in Elizabeth Township,<br />
Jo Daviess County and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Wilbur Johnston and Agnes Irene (Sherrard)<br />
Virtue. She attended Rock College School, Black School, and graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong><br />
High School in 1933. She attended Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois and Northern<br />
Illinois University, DeKalb, Illinois. Genevieve married Orville Rowe Virtue on August<br />
31, 1940 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and three children were born to this union: Jerry Rowe Virtue,<br />
Barbara Agnes Virtue, and Carole Jean Virtue. Genevieve taught at Eureka School in<br />
rural Stockton for three years and Lost Mound School in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> for two years.<br />
In addition to farming with her husband she was a substitute teacher for ten years in the<br />
<strong>Hanover</strong> Public Schools, taught remedial reading full time from 1966 until 1980 and<br />
later was a private tutor. She and her husband moved to the village <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hanover</strong> in 1978.<br />
Genevieve died January 2, 2004 and is buried in Log Church Cemetery.<br />
Virtue, Harvey Thomas was born November 27, 1918 in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />
son <strong>of</strong> James Arthur and Florence Edith (Steele) Virtue. He was a lifelong farmer in<br />
<strong>Hanover</strong>. Harvey died December 30, 1992 and is buried in Log Church Cemetery.<br />
Virtue, LeRoy Steele was born February 20, 1916 in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />
James Arthur and Florence Edith (Steele) Virtue. He graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High<br />
School in 1932. Roy served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force from 1942 until 1962.<br />
He farmed in the <strong>Hanover</strong> area for many years. Roy died December 11, 1998 and is<br />
buried in Log Church Cemetery.<br />
Virtue, Lucile Agnes (Edgerton) was born February 5, 1909 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />
daughter <strong>of</strong> Frank Emmett and Elizabeth Jane (Steele) Edgerton. She graduated from<br />
<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1926, Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois in 1932 and received<br />
her master’s degree from Cortland State University in New York. Lucile married the<br />
Reverend Willis Wilbur Virtue on August 25, 1937. They adopted two sons: Leon<br />
“Lee” Willis Virtue and Larry Wilbur Virtue, and one daughter was born to this union:<br />
Jeanne (Virtue) Papesh. Lucile was a fifth grade teacher in Johnson City School District<br />
in New York for many years. Lucile died on March 14, 2008 in Owego, New York; she<br />
was cremated and buried in Evergreen Cemetery, <strong>Hanover</strong>.<br />
Virtue, Orville Rowe was born January 26, 1912 in Elizabeth, Illinois and was the son<br />
<strong>of</strong> Alfred Rowe and Bessie Jane (Nesbitt) Virtue. He attended Black School, graduated<br />
from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1929, and attended Monmouth College, Monmouth,<br />
Illinois. He married Genevieve Mildred Virtue on August 31, 1940 and three children<br />
were born to this union: Jerry Rowe Virtue, Barbara Agnes Virtue, and Carole Jean<br />
Virtue. Orville farmed all his life until he retired in 1978 and moved to the village <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Hanover</strong>. He died January 28, 1985 and is buried in the Log Church Cemetery.<br />
Virtue, Ross Maynard was born December 7, 1899 in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son<br />
<strong>of</strong> Jared William and Mary Ellen (Speer) Virtue. He graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High<br />
School in 1918 and from Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio in 1924. Ross later<br />
received his School Administrative degree from Ohio State University in 1935. Ross<br />
married Ella Augusta Carson and one son was born to this union: James Jared Virtue.<br />
The family lived in Gnadenhutten, Ohio for many years where Ross was the
