pastor at St. Nicholas Church in Aurora,Illinois, St. John the Baptist Church in<br />
Johnsburg, Illinois, and St. John the Baptist Church in Savanna, Illinois. He became<br />
pastor <strong>of</strong> St. Catherine’s Church in Prophetstown, Illinois and St. Ambrose Cathedral in<br />
Erie, Illinois. He was pastor <strong>of</strong> St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in <strong>Hanover</strong><br />
from 1979 until 1991. Father Anger died September 15, 1991 and is buried in St.<br />
Mary’s Cemetery, Galena.<br />
Ankney, David “Leggs” Gary was born October 19, 1952 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son<br />
<strong>of</strong> David W. and Velma E. (Chadwick) Ankney. He spent nine years in the U.S. Army.<br />
David lived in Savanna and worked in construction for many years and later at Swiss<br />
Colony in Savanna. David died February 20, 1998 and is buried in Lena Burial Park,<br />
Lena, Illinois.<br />
Apsley, Joyce Elaine (Thompson) was born June 19, 1934 in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and was<br />
the daughter <strong>of</strong> Joseph “Joe” Henry and Blanche Mildred (Miller) Thompson. She<br />
graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1952 and attended the Teletype School for the<br />
Department <strong>of</strong> the Army in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. She married Kenneth E. Apsley<br />
on October 2, 1965 in Galena. Joyce retired on January 3, 1992 from the Department <strong>of</strong><br />
the Army, where she worked as a Staff Support Clerk in the Administration Office <strong>of</strong><br />
the Material Management Directorate at Rock Island Arsenal. She also worked for the<br />
U.S. Army in Savanna, Pennsylvania, Okinawa, Japan and New York. Joyce was living<br />
in Bettendorf, Iowa when she died on July 29, 1992. She is buried in the Log Church<br />
Cemetery.<br />
Armstrong, Elizabeth was born in Elizabeth on May 7, 1899 and was the daughter <strong>of</strong><br />
William R. and Emily (Mills) Armstrong. Elizabeth died July 17, 1980 and is buried in<br />
the Log Church Cemetery.<br />
Armstrong, Margaret Isabelle (Virtue) was born August 21, 1915 near Rodden,<br />
Elizabeth Township, Jo Daviess County and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Alfred Rowe and<br />
Bessie Jane (Nesbitt) Virtue. She graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1933 and<br />
later from Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois. Margaret taught school for several<br />
years. Margaret married Wilfred John Armstrong on December 2, 1939 in Sussex,<br />
Wisconsin and four children were born to this union: Marjorie Ann (Armstong) Brand,<br />
Nancy Joanne (Armstrong) McKinley, Linda Louise (Armstrong) Pratt, and John<br />
William Armstrong. The family farmed more than 20 years in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and<br />
Elizabeth before moving to the village <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hanover</strong> in 1962. Margaret died November<br />
29, 2009 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Armstrong, Wilfred John was born February 18, 1913 near Blanding, Rice Township,<br />
Jo Daviess County and was the son <strong>of</strong> John William and Emily (Burke) Armstrong. He<br />
graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1930 and attended Monmouth College.<br />
Wilfred married Margaret Isabelle Virtue on December 2, 1939 in Sussex, Wisconsin<br />
and four children were born to this union: Marjorie Ann (Armstrong) Brand, Nancy<br />
Joanne (Armstrong) McKinley, Linda Louise (Armstrong) Pratt, and John William<br />
Armstrong. He farmed in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> for more than 20 years before moving into<br />
<strong>Hanover</strong> in 1962. Wilfred drove bus for Scenic Stage Line and Tri State Tours for 20<br />
years, retiring in 1982. He served on the <strong>Hanover</strong> School board. Wilfred died July 28,<br />
2002 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Arnold, Charles was born in about 1879. He graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in<br />
1897 and attended college in Marion, Indiana.<br />
