Engel, Edward “Ed” Joseph was born July 18, 1913 in Guilford Township, Jo Daviess<br />

County and was the son <strong>of</strong> Joseph Henry and Clara Cecelia (Isabell) Engel. He married<br />

Emma Wilhelmena Schoenfeld on February 8, 1939 in Galena and three sons were born<br />

to this union: Ellis Edward Engel, Emmett Joseph Engel, and Eugene Francis Engel.<br />

Ed was a World War <strong>II</strong> U.S. Army Veteran. Ed farmed in the Blanding area and was in<br />

the junk business for a number <strong>of</strong> years and later worked at the Savanna Army Depot<br />

before he retired in 1971. They moved to the village <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hanover</strong> in their later years. Ed<br />

died on December 4, 1990 and cremation rites were accorded with the burial <strong>of</strong> the<br />

ashes placed in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Engel, Emma Wilhelmena (Schoenfeld) was born March 30, 1913 in Rice Township,<br />

Jo Daviess County and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Albert Francis and Mae Julia (Petitgout)<br />

Schoenfeld. She married Edward Joseph Engel on February 8, 1939 in Galena and three<br />

sons were born to this union: Ellis Edward Engel, Emmett Joseph Engel, and Eugene<br />

Francis Engel. They lived in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> for many years before moving to town.<br />

Emma worked for Eaton Corporation for 11 years. Emma died May 7, 2008; her<br />

husband’s cremated ashes were placed in her casket and they are buried in Evergreen<br />

Cemetery.<br />

Engel, Marguerite Emma (Flynn) was born August 28, 1918 in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and was<br />

the daughter <strong>of</strong> James John and Liane M. (Petitgout) Flynn. She married William<br />

“Cappy” C. Engel on August 31, 1940 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and seven children were born to this<br />

union: Mary Ellen (Engel) Krocheski, Rose Ann (Engel) Imbus, Joan Marie (Engel)<br />

Lincoln, Alice Teresa (Engel) Hannaman, Leo Edward Engel, Paul Robert Engel, and<br />

William James Engel who died in infancy. She lived most <strong>of</strong> her life in Galena.<br />

Marguerite died August 18, 1996 and is buried in St. Michael’s Catholic Church<br />

Cemetery, Galena.<br />

Engel, William “Cappy” C. was born December 23, 1914 in Guilford Township, Jo<br />

Daviess County and was the son <strong>of</strong> Joseph Henry and Clara Cecelia (Isabell) Engel. He<br />

married Marguerite Emma Flynn on August 31, 1940 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and seven children<br />

were born to this union: Mary Ellen (Engel) Krocheski, Rose Ann (Engel) Imbus, Joan<br />

Marie (Engel) Lincoln, Alice Teresa (Engel) Hannaman, Leo Edward Engel, Paul<br />

Robert Engel, and William James Engel who died in infancy. He was a World War <strong>II</strong><br />

Veteran. They had lived in Galena most <strong>of</strong> their life and Cappy retired from Dubuque<br />

Packing Company in 1976. Cappy died July 16, 1987 and is buried in St. Michael’s<br />

Catholic Church Cemetery, Galena.<br />

Enz, Wilma Jean (Potter) was born August 19, 1920 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the daughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> William Raymond and Mary Ada (Harkness) Potter. She graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

High School in 1938. Wilma married Robert Mark Enz on April 19, 1939 in <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

and five children were born to this union: Robert Enz, William Enz, Mark Enz, Martin<br />

Enz, and Rhonda Enz. The family lived in Wilmington, Illinois for many years and<br />

retired to Scottsdale, Arizona. Robert was born June 18, 1917 in Savanna, Illinois and<br />

was the son <strong>of</strong> Otto and Mary Enz. Robert died November 15, 1989 and Wilma died in<br />

June 1998, both in Scottsdale.<br />
