Savanna Army Depot and also lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> before they retired to McAlester,<br />
Oklahoma. Alberta was living in Elizabeth when she died June 15, 2009.<br />
Mercer, Everett Lawrence was born August 23, 1921 in Broadwater, Nebraska and<br />
was the son <strong>of</strong> Walter Lincoln and Golda Madge (Waggy) Mercer. He married Alberta<br />
Mae Fastenau on December 27, 1946 in Broadwater and four children were born to this<br />
union: Patricia “Pat” (Mercer) Skillman, Katherine “Kathy” Ann (Mercer) Smel<strong>of</strong>f,<br />
Walter “Wally” Herman Mercer, and Theodore “Theo” George Mercer. They farmed in<br />
the Broadwater area until they began working for the Government Depot <strong>of</strong> Defense in<br />
Nebraska. They worked and lived in many places including: California, Illinois, Texas,<br />
New York, Japan, and Oklahoma. They lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> from 1968 until 1971 while<br />
working at the Savanna Army Depot. They also lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> before they retired to<br />
McAlester, Oklahoma. Everett was living in McAlester when he died on August 10,<br />
1988. He is buried in Bridgeport, Nebraska.<br />
Mercer, Keith Newton was born June 30, 1932 in Warren County, Illinois and was the<br />
son <strong>of</strong> Loa Edward and Nettie (Gorsage) Mercer. The family moved to <strong>Hanover</strong><br />
Township in 1951. Keith married Alberta Mae Potter on June 25, 1955 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and<br />
three sons were born to this union: Keith Eric Mercer, Mark Emery Mercer, and Nathan<br />
Ross Mercer. Keith was a U. S. Marine Korean War Veteran. He farmed all his life in<br />
the rural <strong>Hanover</strong> & Elizabeth area. Keith died March 10, 2003 and is buried in Chapel<br />
Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.<br />
Mercer, Margaret “Peggy” Ann (Howard) was born May 7, 1937 in Erie, Illinois and<br />
was the daughter <strong>of</strong> William and Hazel (Shepherd) Howard. She graduated from<br />
<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1955. Margaret married William “Bill” Henry Mercer on<br />
November 23, 1956 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and three sons were born to this union: Brett William<br />
Mercer who died in infancy, Reverend David Kyle Mercer, and Daniel Patrick Mercer.<br />
They farmed in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> for many years. Margaret died September 3, 1972.<br />
Mercer, William “Bill” Henry was born May 20, 1934 in Table Grove, Illinois and<br />
was the son <strong>of</strong> Loa Edward and Nettie (Gorsage) Mercer. The family moved to <strong>Hanover</strong><br />
Township in 1951. Bill graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1952. Bill served in<br />
the U.S. Army from 1954 until 1956. He married Margaret “Peggy” Ann Howard on<br />
November 23, 1956 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and three sons were born to this union: Brett William<br />
Mercer, who died in infancy, Reverend David Kyle Mercer, and Daniel Patrick Mercer.<br />
Bill farmed in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> for a number <strong>of</strong> years, worked at M & W Feeds, Farmers<br />
Exchange, was a field representative for Nutrena Feeds, John Knobel & Sons, park<br />
ranger at Apple Canyon State Park, Glanville Hardware and owned and operated Bill’s<br />
Shop in Stockton. Bill also served on the Jo Daviess County Board for several years.<br />
After the death <strong>of</strong> his wife Margaret on September 3, 1972 he married Joyce<br />
Krippendorf on June 14, 1974 in Massbach and this union gave him two stepsons:<br />
Steve Marks and Nelson Marks. Bill lived in Stockton for many years when he died<br />
September 17, 2005.<br />
Meredith, Irene Alice (Rey) was born February 4, 1934 in Pitt, Minnesota and was the<br />
daughter <strong>of</strong> Walter Albert and Alice Marie (Fox) Rey. She was married to James<br />
Meredith and they had three daughters: Ram Meredith, Rose Meredith, and Kim<br />
Meredith. Irene lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> before moving to Susanville, California. She died<br />
November 18, 1982 in Susanville and is buried in Janesville Cemetery, Janesville,<br />
California.
