Garner, Albert Weston was born June 1, 1909 in Plymouth, Iowa and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Albert Weston and Maria Katrina (Bladine) Garner. Albert served in the U.S. Army<br />

from 1937 until 1940. He married Jessie May Edgerton on March 24, 1941 in Dubuque,<br />

Iowa and two children were born to this union: Jerry Lee Garner and Nancy May<br />

(Garner) Virtue. The Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad employed Albert for 15<br />

years and he later worked as the assistant maintenance man for the village <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hanover</strong>.<br />

Albert died August 20, 2002 and his body was donated to Northern Illinois University in<br />

DeKalb for medical research. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Garner, Jessie May (Edgerton) was born February 21, 1917 in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and was<br />

the daughter <strong>of</strong> Frank Emmett and Elizabeth Jane (Steele) Edgerton. She graduated<br />

from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1934. Jessie married Albert Weston Garner on March 24,<br />

1941 in Dubuque, Iowa and two children were born to this union: Jerry Lee Garner and<br />

Nancy May (Garner) Virtue. She was the <strong>Hanover</strong> librarian for many years and also<br />

served as <strong>Hanover</strong> Township clerk for 25 years. Jessie died March 21, 1998; she was<br />

cremated and buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Gates <strong>II</strong>I, Amos E. was born November 13, 1950 in Springfield, Illinois and was the<br />

son <strong>of</strong> Amos E. and Beverly (Reidel) Gates Jr. He attended school in Springfield. He<br />

worked at Carrollton Inn in Mt. Carroll, Excel Automotive in Stockton, and Blacks<br />

Railroad Transit. Amos had two children: Amos E. Gates IV and Victoria Gates. He<br />

was living in <strong>Hanover</strong> when he died June 28, 2008 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Gaul, Louis E. was born August 31, 1917 in Brookville, Illinois and was the son <strong>of</strong> Ira<br />

Melvin and Martha Mae (Albright) Gaul. He married Ruth Stoneking on June 4, 1971<br />

in Forreston. He had four children: Esther (Gaul) Shan, Diane Gaul, Melvin Gaul, and<br />

Dennis Gaul, and two stepchildren: Randy Wilson and Candy Streit. Louis was an<br />

employee <strong>of</strong> Cable Printing Company in Mt. Morris for a number <strong>of</strong> years before<br />

moving to <strong>Hanover</strong>. He died September 15, 1991 and is buried in Leighsville Cemetery,<br />

Leaf River.<br />

Geerts, Harry was born March 17, 1912 in Morrison, Illinois and was the son <strong>of</strong> Harry<br />

and Grace (Housenga) Geerts. He married Ida Kathryn Letcher on February 27, 1934 in<br />

Morrison and five children were born to this union: Earl William Geerts, Mary Anne<br />

Geerts, Kathryn Mae (Geerts) Lawrence, Betty Marie Geerts, and Janet Kay Geerts.<br />

They farmed more than 40 years near Thomson, Sterling and Rock Falls, retiring in<br />

1974. He then worked at the Westwick’s Foundry in Galena from 1974 until 1979. He<br />

lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a number <strong>of</strong> years and later moved to Preston, Iowa. Harry died<br />

May 14, 2003 and is buried in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Sterling.<br />

Geerts, Ida Kathryn (Letcher) was born March 23, 1915 in Morrison, Illinois and was<br />

the daughter <strong>of</strong> William and Lillian Mae (Kleinschrodt) Letcher. She attended<br />

Robertson county school near Morrison. Ida married Harry Geerts on February 27,<br />

1934 and five children were born to this union: Earl William Geerts, Mary Anne<br />

Geerts, Kathryn Mae (Geerts) Lawrence, Betty Marie Geerts, and Janet Kay Geerts.<br />

They farmed more than 40 years near Thomson, Sterling and Rock Falls, retiring in<br />

1974. They lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a number <strong>of</strong> years. She died August 5, 1996 and is<br />

buried in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Sterling.<br />
