Elizabeth died October 27, 1999 and is buried in Savanna Township Cemetery.<br />

Porras, Johanna Marie (Meeck) was born September 12, 1929 in Meseritz, Germany<br />

and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Wilhelm and Helena (Paetzolt) Meeck. She married Joseph<br />

“Joe” Jesse Porras on June 2, 1955 in Munich, Germany and one daughter was born to<br />

this union: Barbara Jean (Porras) Magalli. They moved to <strong>Hanover</strong> and Johanna<br />

worked at the Savanna Army Depot, Sullivan’s Grocery and Bill’s Supermarket in<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong>. She also worked at Eaton Corporation until she retired in 1991. Johanna died<br />

August 7, 1993 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Porras, Joseph “Joe” Jesse was born June 30, 1930 in East Chicago, Indiana and was<br />

the son <strong>of</strong> Ezequiel and Apolinar (Valdivia) Porras. He attended school in East Chicago<br />

and later joined the U.S. Army. While stationed in Germany he married Johanna Marie<br />

Meeck on June 2, 1955 in Munich, Germany and one daughter was born to this union:<br />

Barbara Jean (Porras) Magalli. Joe retired from the U.S. Army in 1975 and later worked<br />

at the Savanna Army Depot until he retired in 1993. Joe died July 13, 2007 and is<br />

buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Potter, Blanche Manilla (Shaw) was born November 10, 1898 in Elizabeth, Illinois<br />

and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Charles Newton and Nona Elizabeth (Ashmore) Shaw. She<br />

married John Carl Potter on May 15, 1919 in Galena and six children were born to this<br />

union: Geneva Audrey (Potter) Morrison, Elizabeth “Betty” May (Potter) Shepherd,<br />

Maxine Carol (Potter) Vanderheyden, Irma Jean (Potter) Geiger, Blanche Marcella<br />

“Tot” (Potter) Kammer, and Carl Edward Potter. Blanche was employed at the <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

Woolen Mill, was a cook at the <strong>Hanover</strong> School and worked at the Savanna Army<br />

Depot. Blanche died January 1, 1995 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Potter, Charles “Chuck” Elmer was born May 17, 1931 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son<br />

<strong>of</strong> Robert Harold “Chris” and Geraldine Helen (McDowell) Potter. He graduated from<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1948. Chuck was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. Chuck<br />

married Joyce Arlene Kevern on December 21, 1950 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and two daughters<br />

were born to this union: Candis “Candy” Elaine (Potter) Albrecht and Cheryl Joyce<br />

(Potter) Rife. He lived in Elizabeth most <strong>of</strong> his adult life where he worked for the<br />

Elizabeth Garage for 15 years; owned Chuck’s Service Station for 26 years and worked<br />

at Dura Automotive for ten years. Chuck died April 22, 2010.<br />

Potter, Ida Marie (Carlson) Bainbridge was born May 3, 1922 in Glen Haven,<br />

Wisconsin and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Gustaf and Beulah (Suck) Carlson. She married<br />

Melvin Bainbridge on February 10, 1942 and one son was born to this union: Nickolas<br />

“Nick” Adair Bainbridge. Melvin was killed in action in World War <strong>II</strong> in 1943. Ida<br />

later married John Potter in January 1952 in Tipton, Iowa and two children were born to<br />

this union: Mary Jo (Potter) Slocum and John “Tim” Carl Potter. Ida lived in <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

most <strong>of</strong> her life and was a tool keeper at the Savanna Army Depot before she retired.<br />

Ida died April 21, 1984 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Potter, Iona Mae (Ehredt) was born May 3, 1905 in Derinda Township, Jo Daviess<br />

County and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> William and Emily Mable (Balbach) Ehredt. She<br />

married Ross “Twister” Edward Potter on January 3, 1924 in Galena and three children<br />

were born to this union: Robert Ross Potter, Arletta Eleanor (Potter) Maeder, and<br />

Alberta Mae (Potter) Mercer. They farmed in <strong>Hanover</strong> Township for many years. Iona<br />

died May 8, 1985 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
