Freeport for many years. Her husband Milford died December 3, 1975. Martha died<br />

December 1, 1997 and her body was donated to the Anatomical Gifts Association <strong>of</strong><br />

Illinois.<br />

Hopkins, Robert “Big Bob” Joseph was born October 19, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio<br />

and was the son <strong>of</strong> James and Genevieve (Whalen) Hopkins. He married Marie<br />

Margaret Tressa on November 18, 1961 and three daughters were born to this union:<br />

Colleen Marie (Hopkins) Ross, Karen Ann (Hopkins) Griffin, and Kathleen Marie<br />

(Hopkins) Clayton. In Bob’s early years he worked for Midwest Forge in Cleveland,<br />

Ohio and later for King Instruments assembling saxophones. The family moved to<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> in 1971 and he worked for Tri-State Tours and later at Chestnut Mountain<br />

Resort as the head <strong>of</strong> inside maintenance for 34 years before he retired in November<br />

2007. After retirement Bob worked for the Jo Daviess County Workshop. Bob died<br />

September 28, 2010; he was cremated and his remains were buried in a place that he<br />

loved.<br />

Hopper, Dale Francis was born July 6, 1941 in Kankakee, Illinois and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Clyde and Hazel Edwina (Oakes) Hopper. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s<br />

degree from the University <strong>of</strong> Illinois. He was the high school band director in <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

from 1964 until 1966 and then transferred to Herscher High School for 12 years. In<br />

1978 Dale became the director <strong>of</strong> bands at Western Illinois University in Macomb. Dale<br />

married Marilyn Hoekstra and five daughters were born to this union: Kristina (Hopper)<br />

Flajnik, Kimberly (Hopper) Graham, Kelly (Hopper) Brown, Kara (Hopper) Murdock,<br />

and Kathleen Hopper. Dale died September 16, 2005 in Macomb and is buried in St.<br />

Anne Cemetery, St. Anne, Illinois.<br />

Horton, Peggy Lee (Mickle) was born September 22, 1927 in Whiteside County,<br />

Illinois and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Kenneth Charles and Jessie Pauline “Polly” (Likes)<br />

Mickle. She graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1945. Peggy had lived in Oxon<br />

Hill, Maryland for many years. Peggy died November 15, 2001 in Maryland.<br />

Hotchkiss, Mae A. (Resel) was born October 21, 1905 in Savanna, Illinois and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Frederick “Fred” and Lulu (Cisler) Resel. She married Joseph “Joe”<br />

Hotchkiss on February 1, 1936 and he died in 1979. Mae was employed as a clerk at the<br />

Savanna National Bank during the 1930s. Mae died February 10, 1991; she was<br />

cremated and buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Hottenstein, Maxine Althea (Gamble) was born November 16, 1930 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Genoa Glenn and Lida M. (Wadleigh) Gamble. She graduated from<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1948. Maxine married Philip Hugh Hottenstein on May 6,<br />

1950 in Galena and five children were born to this union: Joyce (Hottenstein)<br />

Wagenknecht, Suzanne (Hottenstein) Berg, Philip G. Hottenstein, Cynthia (Hottenstein)<br />

Struve, and Kay Hottenstein. Maxine lived in Savanna most <strong>of</strong> her adult life. Maxine<br />

died March 10, 1982 and the funeral was held in Savanna.<br />

Houseman, Barbara Lee (Whalen) was born August 29, 1947 in Savanna, Illinois and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Leo Ralph and Esther Mary (Yackley) Whalen. She graduated from<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1965 and completed her R.N. degree at St. Anthony’s School<br />

<strong>of</strong> Nursing in Rockford, Illinois. Barb married Donald Dean Houseman on April 12,<br />

1969 and two children were born to this union: Dr. Benjamin “Ben” Thomas Houseman<br />

and Gretchen Houseman. The family lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for many years, later moving to<br />

southern Illinois, then returning back to the area in about 2005. Barb worked as a nurse
