Sanderson, Jessie Mae (Callahan) was born April 24, 1916 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />
daughter <strong>of</strong> Earl Francis and Addie Mae (Eustice) Callahan. She married Stanley “Stan”<br />
LeRoy Sanderson on September 11, 1933 in Galena and five children were born to this<br />
union: Dale Stanley Sanderson, Gary Keith Sanderson, Carol Ann (Sanderson) Cole,<br />
Maureen Mae (Sanderson) Shepherd, and James Earl Sanderson. Jessie enjoyed writing,<br />
especially poetry and published a book <strong>of</strong> her poems called Fireflies in 2003. Jessie<br />
lived in Galena most <strong>of</strong> her adult life. Jessie died October 1, 2010 and is buried in Log<br />
Church Cemetery.<br />
Sanderson, Leland Lynn was born May 25, 1920 in Rodden, Elizabeth Township, Jo<br />
Daviess County and was the son <strong>of</strong> Warren and Luella (Cook) Sanderson. He attended<br />
Black School in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and graduated from Galena High School in 1937. Leland<br />
married Carol Elizabeth Asmus on October 3, 1942 in Lincoln, Nebraska and one<br />
daughter was born to this union: Candace “Candy” Lynn (Sanderson) Saam. Leland<br />
was a World War <strong>II</strong> U.S. Army-Air Force Veteran. He worked for Northern States, later<br />
Interstate Power Company for many years before he retired in 1982. Leland died<br />
February 11, 2007 in Galena and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena.<br />
Sanderson, Stanley “Stan” LeRoy was born October 8, 1911 in Rodden, Elizabeth<br />
Township, Jo Daviess County and was the son <strong>of</strong> Warren and Luella (Cook) Sanderson.<br />
He graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1929. Stan married Jessie Mae Callahan on<br />
September 11, 1933 in Galena and five children were born to this union: Dale Stanley<br />
Sanderson, Gary Keith Sanderson, Carol Ann (Sanderson) Radabaugh, Maureen Mae<br />
(Sanderson) Shepherd, and James Earl Sanderson. He farmed and later was a salesman<br />
for Jo Daviess Service Company and then was proprietor <strong>of</strong> Sanderson’s Service Station<br />
in Galena for 22 years before retirement. He also drove school bus for Hillard<br />
Transportation. Stan died April 22, 1993 and is buried in Log Church Cemetery.<br />
Sands, Cheryl Rae (Bailey) was born December 2, 1962 in Savanna, Illinois and was<br />
the daughter <strong>of</strong> Carl and Kay Arleen (Miller) Bailey. She lived in Galena for a number<br />
<strong>of</strong> years before moving to Windsor, Colorado. Cheryl was married and had three<br />
children: Lauren Runde, Evan Runde, and Jacob Runde. She later married Stephen<br />
Sands and this union gave her two stepchildren: Kira Sands and Josh Sands. At the<br />
time <strong>of</strong> her death she was attending Regis College in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Cheryl died<br />
March 13, 2007 in Windsor and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, <strong>Hanover</strong>.<br />
Sauer, Mary Ella “Sis” (Diehl) was born February 8, 1924 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />
daughter <strong>of</strong> Jack and Alice Louisa (Paisley) Diehl. She graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High<br />
School in 1942. Sis married Ralph F. Sauer on September 3, 1955 and no children were<br />
born to this union. Sis worked as a supply specialist at the Savanna Army Depot for a<br />
time. Sis later lived in Wilmington, Illinois for a number <strong>of</strong> years before moving to<br />
Madison, Indiana. Sis died February 24, 2002 in Madison.<br />
Saxon, Odis McLeal was born April 28, 1931 in Anderson, South Carolina and was the<br />
son <strong>of</strong> John Hinson and Dora Bell (Smith) Saxon. He had three children: Robin<br />
(Saxon) Hammond, Debbie (Saxon) Vigil, and Ronald Saxon. Odis was a retired<br />
Technical Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after serving 22 years and was later<br />
employed as an explosives operator at the Savanna Army Depot. Odis died September<br />
28, 1990 and is buried in Log Church Cemetery.<br />
Scanlan, Mary Virginia was born in about 1914 and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Peter F. and<br />
Mary M. Scanlan. The family moved from Sterling, Illinois to <strong>Hanover</strong> in the late 1920s
