Flickinger, Anna Ferne (Straitt) was born March 29, 1915 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Roy Eugene and Mae (Conley) Straitt. She married John Harlan Flickinger<br />

on August 14, 1943 in Decatur, Illinois and one son was born to this union: James<br />

Flickinger. They lived in Savanna and Anna was a supervisor for 11 years at the<br />

Savanna Garment Factory, retiring in 1959. Anna died July 22, 1998; she was cremated<br />

and buried in the Lanark Cemetery.<br />

Flies, Elizabeth “Betty” Faye (Murphy) was born September 15, 1921 in Browerville,<br />

Minnesota and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Raleigh Albert and Luella May (Sanborn) Murphy.<br />

She attended Winona High School in Minnesota. Betty married Joseph Francis Richard<br />

Flies on February 14, 1940 in Wabasha, Minnesota and four children were born to this<br />

union: Virginia Mae (Flies) Haas, Richard Duane Flies, Joseph Francis Flies, and James<br />

Michael Flies. They owned a restaurant in Kellogg, Minnesota. In the 1940s they<br />

moved to <strong>Hanover</strong> where they operated a restaurant for many years before moving to<br />

Savanna and operating several restaurants there. Betty also worked at the Savanna<br />

Army Depot. The couple also lived in Thomson and were living in Fulton when she<br />

died July 14, 2010; she was cremated and buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Flies, James “Jim” Michael was born May 11, 1949 in Savanna, Illinois and was the<br />

son <strong>of</strong> Joseph Francis Richard and Elizabeth “Betty” Faye (Murphy) Flies. He<br />

graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1967. Jim was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He<br />

obtained three bachelor’s degrees from Illinois State University in sociology,<br />

psychology and in May 1998, in sports medicine. Jim worked in the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> admission<br />

and records at Illinois State University, and had been a casework supervisor at Pontiac<br />

Correctional Center, and a counselor at Soldiers and Sailors <strong>Home</strong> in Normal. He had<br />

one daughter: Shannon Flies. Jim was living in Normal when he died September 17,<br />

1998; he was cremated and buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Flippin, Vera Adel (Gerlich) was born January 25, 1924 and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Louis<br />

Anthony and Louise A. Gerlich. She graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1942.<br />

Vera married Junior Adolf “J.A.” Flippin on May 27, 1943 and two children were born<br />

to this union: Pamela Ann (Flippin) Carlon and Robert Flippin. The lived in <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

for a number <strong>of</strong> years before moving to Janesville, Wisconsin. Vera was a computer<br />

operator for many years. Vera died April 22, 1994.<br />

Flynn, Irene Velma (Dittmar) Schweitzer was born July 22, 1923 in Woodbine, Jo<br />

Daviess County and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Ole James and Adeline Elizabeth (Studier)<br />

Dittmar. She was married to Joseph Schweitzer and one daughter was born to this<br />

union: Donna Jean (Schweitzer) Mullane. Irene later married Julius John Flynn on<br />

September 5, 1953 and three sons were born to this union: Gary James Flynn, John<br />

Julius James Flynn, and Charles Edward Flynn. They farmed in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> for many<br />

years before moving to <strong>Hanover</strong>. Irene died March 9, 1996 and is buried in Greenwood<br />

Cemetery, Galena.<br />

Flynn, Julius “Judy” John was born August 12, 1920 in Rice Township, Jo Daviess<br />

County and was the son <strong>of</strong> James John and Liane Marie (Petitgout) Flynn. He attended<br />

school in rural <strong>Hanover</strong>. He was a World War <strong>II</strong> U.S. Army Veteran. Julius married<br />

Irene Velma (Dittmar) Schweitzer on September 5, 1953 and this union gave him one<br />

stepdaughter: Donna Jean (Schweitzer) Mullane and three sons were born to this union:<br />

Gary James Flynn, John Julius James Flynn, and Charles Edward Flynn. Julius farmed<br />
