Hancock, Blaine Freeman was born February 24, 1926 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />
Freeman “Happy” Eugene and Jessie (Schaible) Hancock. He graduated from St.<br />
Columbkille’s High School in 1944. He was a World War <strong>II</strong> and Korean War U.S.<br />
Navy Veteran. Blaine and his wife Janaan had nine sons: Joseph Hancock, Ken<br />
Hancock, Mark Hancock, Mike Hancock, Nick Hancock, Tony Hancock, Andy<br />
Hancock, Kevin Hancock, and Dr. Jerry Hancock. The family lived in Dubuque.<br />
Blaine died August 25, 1995 and he is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West.<br />
Hancock, Clarence Oscar was born June 24, 1906 in Elizabeth, Illinois and was the<br />
son <strong>of</strong> Oscar Edwin and Amelia (Menzemer) Hancock. He graduated from Elizabeth<br />
High School in 1926. He married Edna Viola Koehn on September 8, 1937 in Duluth,<br />
Minnesota and three sons were born to this union: Cleland Hancock, Tom Hancock, and<br />
Dennis Hancock. He farmed in rural Elizabeth for a time and also lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> in<br />
the 1950s. Edna died December 13, 1994 and Clarence died February 22, 2006. They<br />
are buried in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Freeport.<br />
Hancock, Donald Leroy was born June 26, 1921 and was the son <strong>of</strong> Faye Irene<br />
Hancock. After his mother’s death he spent his early years with his grandmother as well<br />
as his uncle and aunt, Nelson “Nellie” Monroe and Dorothy Mildred Bearsley. Donald<br />
was a World War <strong>II</strong> U.S. Army Veteran and he earned the Bronze Star. Donald married<br />
Marcella Geraldine Quale on October 1, 1941 in Galena and four daughters were born to<br />
this union: Delinda Faye (Hancock) Bimm, Diane Christine (Hancock) Dahlman,<br />
Donna Jean (Hancock) Nadig, and Darleen Marie (Hancock) Penoyer. Donald served as<br />
president <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Hanover</strong> School Board in the early 1960s. He was owner operator <strong>of</strong> a<br />
heating and plumbing business in <strong>Hanover</strong> until 1962. He later worked at the State<br />
Bank <strong>of</strong> Freeport until the mid-1980s. Donald died February 14, 2001 and is buried in<br />
Log Church Cemetery.<br />
Hancock, Freeman “Happy” Eugene was born November 13, 1901 in Elizabeth,<br />
Illinois and was the son <strong>of</strong> Freeman Eugene and Myrtle Mabel (Weston) Hancock Sr.<br />
He grew up in <strong>Hanover</strong>. He was married to Jessie Schaible and three known sons were<br />
born to this union: William Hancock, Blaine Freeman Hancock, and Calvin Lee<br />
“Blackie” Hancock. Happy and Jessie divorced and he married Doris Meehan. Happy<br />
had three other known children: Sister Mary Janice Hancock, James “Jim” Hancock, and<br />
John “Jack” Hancock. In 1956 he opened up a bar and restaurant called Happy’s Place<br />
in Dubuque. Happy died June 17, 1982 and is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery,<br />
Dubuque.<br />
Hancock, Marcella Geraldine (Quale) was born July 25, 1924 in Buffalo County,<br />
Wisconsin and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Martin C. and Christine (Jordet) Quale. She spent<br />
her childhood years in Modena, Wisconsin and later moved to Galena. Marcella<br />
married Donald Leroy Hancock on October 1, 1941 in Galena and four daughters were<br />
born to this union: Delinda Faye (Hancock) Bimm, Diane Christine (Hancock)<br />
Dahlman, Donna Jean (Hancock) Nadig, and Darleen Marie (Hancock) Penoyer. After<br />
their marriage they moved to <strong>Hanover</strong> and she managed her husband’s heating and<br />
plumbing business until 1962. She was then employed in the accounting department <strong>of</strong><br />
Crum and Forster Insurance Group in Freeport until she retired. Marcella died May 9,<br />
2005 and is buried in Log Church Cemetery.<br />
Hancock, Robert Weston was born February 16, 1919 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />
Freeman Eugene and Myrtle Mabel (Weston) Hancock. Robert was a World War <strong>II</strong><br />
