Whalen, Dorothy Marie (Girot) White was born June 29, 1901 in Galena, Illinois and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Paul Joseph Vital and Martha Juliette (Quille) Girot. She married<br />

Alva Scott White on December 8, 1920 in Dubuque and one son was born to this union:<br />

John “Jack” Whitney White. Alva died in 1947, and Dorothy married James Leo<br />

Whalen on June 1, 1952 in <strong>Hanover</strong>. Dorothy was a weaver at the <strong>Hanover</strong> Woolen<br />

Mill and a guard at the Savanna Army Depot prior to retirement. Dorothy died March<br />

17, 1987 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Whalen, Esther Mary (Yackley) was born February 19, 1914 in Madelia, Minnesota<br />

and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Eugene Martin and Catherine (Kolhaas) Yackley. The family<br />

moved to Downers Grove, Illinois when Ester was a child. Esther married Leo Ralph<br />

Whalen on January 7, 1939 in Dubuque and five children were born to this union:<br />

Wayne Walter Whalen, Marianne (Whalen) Murphy, William “Bill” Eugene Whalen,<br />

Barbara “Barb” Lee (Whalen) Houseman, and Catherine “Cathy” (Whalen) Eisenh<strong>of</strong>er.<br />

Esther and her husband were co-founders <strong>of</strong> Whistling Wings in <strong>Hanover</strong>. Esther died<br />

September 3, 1991 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Whalen, Leo Ralph was born September 10, 1916 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son <strong>of</strong> Mary<br />

Magdalyn (Whalen) Hunt. He graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1934. He was a<br />

World War <strong>II</strong> U.S. Army Veteran. Leo married Esther Mary Yackley on January 7,<br />

1939 and five children were born to this union: Wayne Walter Whalen, Marianne<br />

(Whalen) Murphy, William “Bill” Eugene Whalen, Barbara “Barb” Lee (Whalen)<br />

Houseman, and Catherine “Cathy” (Whalen) Eisenh<strong>of</strong>er. He was a businessman in<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> for many years and was the owner and co-founder <strong>of</strong> Whistling Wings. Leo<br />

died July 13, 1989 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Wheeler, Robert Emory was born September 7, 1931 in Platteville, Wisconsin and was<br />

the son <strong>of</strong> Emory Peter and Harriet Elizabeth (Brownell) Wheeler. He was a U.S. Air<br />

Force Korean War Veteran. Robert had eight children from his first marriage: Michael<br />

Wheeler, Dan Wheeler, Joel Wheeler, John Wheeler, Eric Wheeler, Lisa (Wheeler)<br />

Otto, Renee Wheeler, and Amy (Wheeler) Apfel. He married Judith Ann (Johnson)<br />

Townsend on July 23, 1971 in Rockford, Illinois and this union gave him four stepsons:<br />

David Leslie Townsend, Christopher Eugene Townsend, Paul Tracy Townsend, and<br />

James Edward Townsend. Robert was a self-employed carpenter for many years and<br />

the family lived in Maquoketa, Iowa. Robert died November 6, 1994; he was cremated<br />

and buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Wheeler, Sarah “Ida” Matilda (Denny) Bousman Stenback was born April 15, 1896<br />

in Savanna, Illinois and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> George J. and Alice Mae (Leonard) Denny.<br />

She married Edward Lester Bousman on June 1, 1915 and three sons were born to this<br />

union: John Edward Bousman, William Cecil Bousman, and Harry Bousman. Her<br />

husband Edward died October 26, 1918. She married Fred Stenback on August 21,<br />

1921 and one son was born to this union: Robert Stenback. Ida married Lee Wheeler<br />

on September 1, 1943. Ida worked as an ammunition handler at the Savanna Army<br />

Depot and also worked in the kitchen at the Savanna City Hospital. Ida lived in<br />

Savanna most <strong>of</strong> her life. Lee died December 5, 1970 and Ida died April 28, 1992. She<br />

is buried in Lost Mound Cemetery, <strong>Hanover</strong>.<br />

White, Harry Phillip was born November 18, 1881 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son <strong>of</strong>
