Gugler, Charles “Charlie” Samuel was born September 7, 1895 in Guilford<br />

Township, Jo Daviess County and was the son <strong>of</strong> George A. and Christina (Distler)<br />

Gugler. He married Buena Marguerite (Hancock) Ryder on September 5, 1959 in<br />

Scales Mound and this union gave him two stepchildren: Charlotte Lorraine (Ryder)<br />

Statham and LaVerne Melvin Ryder. They lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for many years. Charlie<br />

died February 22, 1987 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Guth, Gerald R. was born February 2, 1943 in Freeport, Illinois. He married Carol Lee<br />

Anderson and two sons were born to this union: Philip Guth and Karl Guth. Gerald<br />

taught music in <strong>Hanover</strong> High School 1966-67. He taught school in Benton, Wisconsin<br />

and Orangeville, Illinois for a time before working as an executive director for a<br />

Christian school. Gerald died January 30, 2006 in Fort Wayne, Indiana and is buried<br />

there at Greenlawn Memorial Park.<br />

Haarman, George Herbert was born December 16, 1925 in Yosemite, Kentucky and<br />

was the son <strong>of</strong> George John and Zella Dye (Houge) Haarman. Geroge was a World War<br />

<strong>II</strong> U.S. Navy Veteran. He married Edith Marie Haggart on September 4, 1946 in<br />

Russell Springs, Kentucky and four children were born to this union: Daniel “Danny”<br />

Ray Haarman, Judy Kay Haarman, Hilda Mae (Haarman) Erickson, and Herbert Allen<br />

“Buddy” Haarman. George worked at the Savanna Army Depot when they moved to<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> in 1956. They stayed in <strong>Hanover</strong> until 1968 when he transferred to the Joliet<br />

Arsenal. They later moved to Cambridge, Illinois. George died October 15, 1983 and is<br />

buried at the Rock Island Arsenal.<br />

Haas, Jeanette Barnes (Flack) was born September 2, 1922 in Stockton, Illinois and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Frank Lester and Florence Geneva (Irwin) Flack. She graduated<br />

from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1941. Jeanette married Myles Haas on March 14, 1944 in<br />

Derinda and two children were born to this union: James Haas and Nancy (Haas)<br />

Schuster. She owned and operated the Sandburr Gift Shop in Thomson for 17 years,<br />

retiring in 1976. She also taught ceramics out <strong>of</strong> her Thomson home for 17 years. Her<br />

husband Myles died February 27, 1979. Jeanette died June 9, 2003 and is buried in<br />

Lower York Cemetery, Thomson.<br />

Hacker, Bernice H. was born October 18, 1913 in Watertown, South Dakota and was<br />

the daughter <strong>of</strong> John William and Helena Marie (Plath) Hacker. In the 1920s the family<br />

moved from South Dakota to Gratiot, Wisconsin, a few years later to <strong>Hanover</strong>. Bernice<br />

was employed at the Savanna Army Depot and also worked at the <strong>Hanover</strong> restaurant<br />

for several years. She died April 1, 1995 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Hacker, John Louis was born October 9, 1917 in Watertown, South Dakota and was<br />

the son <strong>of</strong> John William and Helena Marie (Plath) Hacker. In the 1920s the family<br />

moved from South Dakota to Gratiot, Wisconsin, a few years later to <strong>Hanover</strong>. John<br />

was employed as a mechanic at Adams Garage in <strong>Hanover</strong> for 35 years before he retired<br />

in 1983. John died May 19, 1994 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Hacker, Vada Louise (Neff) was born July 31, 1907 in rural Shullsburg, Wisconsin and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Albert Anson and Clara Ada (Oates) Neff. She married Ralph<br />

August Hacker on June 27, 1934 in Apple River, Illinois and four children were born to<br />

this union: LeRoy William Hacker, Betty Jean (Hacker) DeWitt, Floyd Albert Hacker,<br />

and JoAnn Helene (Hacker) Kyes. They farmed in <strong>Hanover</strong> Township for many years<br />

before retiring in 1976 and moving to the village <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hanover</strong>. Vada worked part-time as<br />

a custodian at the <strong>Hanover</strong> School. Vada died November 20, 2003 and is buried in<br />
