and Jane Ann (Nelson) Johnson. The family lived in Blackhawk Housing near the main<br />

entrance <strong>of</strong> the Savanna Army Depot for a few years, moving to <strong>Hanover</strong> in 1956. He<br />

worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps, farmed for a short time, was a lineman for<br />

the telegraph, and worked at the Savanna Army Depot from 1950 until his retirement in<br />

1972. After his retirement he worked at Eaton Corporation and Chestnut Mountain<br />

Resort. Vernon died June 5, 1998 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Nesbitt, Hannah Belle (Speer) was born in about 1875 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> James and Ann Jane (Dick) Speer. She graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High<br />

School in 1893 and also attended Monmouth College. She married Josiah M. Nesbitt on<br />

August 18, 1904 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and four children were born to this union: Dorothy<br />

Luverne Lawson, Merle Augusta Nesbitt, Helen Jane Barnes, and a daughter who did in<br />

infancy. The family lived in Traer, Iowa for several years then in 1910 moved to<br />

Arapahoe County, Colorado.<br />

Nesbitt, Mary Jeanette (McCullough) was born November 28, 1887 in College<br />

Springs, Iowa and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> John McKee and Annie Florella (White)<br />

McCullough. She married Marshall John Nesbitt <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hanover</strong> on July 28, 1915 in<br />

College Springs and three sons were born to this union: Marshall Ross Nesbitt,<br />

Raymond Renwick Nesbitt, and Hugh Donald Nesbitt. Mary lived in Rapid City, South<br />

Dakota for a number <strong>of</strong> years and she died there on May 19, 1982. She is buried in<br />

Mountain View Cemetery, Rapid City.<br />

Nesbitt, Neva Estelle (Boldt) was born September 25, 1934 in Guilford Township, Jo<br />

Daviess County and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Myron Leslie and Eunice Lucille (Allen) Boldt.<br />

She graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1952. She married C. H. “Bud” Nesbitt on<br />

May 3, 1952 in Savanna and two daughters were born to this union: Karlene Rae<br />

(Nesbitt) White and Kathleen “Kathy” Kay (Nesbitt) Arnold. She and her husband<br />

owned and operated a tavern in Scales Mound and later the lumber yard in <strong>Hanover</strong>.<br />

Neva also worked for Micro Switch, the Elizabeth Nursing <strong>Home</strong>, and the Village <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Hanover</strong>. The couple later moved from <strong>Hanover</strong> to rural Apple River. Neva died July<br />

21, 2009 and is buried in Shepherd <strong>of</strong> the Hills Lutheran Church Cemetery, Schapville.<br />

Nesbitt, Orville Ritchie was born September 26, 1892 and was the son <strong>of</strong> Renwick<br />

Joseph and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Jane (McKeague) Nesbitt. He graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

High School in 1912. In 1930 Orville was working as a newspaper reporter in Jackson,<br />

Michigan. Orville married Wanda Walker in 1931 and no children were born to this<br />

union. He married Merle (Gustafson) Burke in 1946 and two children were born to this<br />

union: Yvonne Nesbitt and Paul Ritchie Nesbitt. His wife Merle was born May 30, 1914<br />

and died in August 15, 1980 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Orville died October 1, 1972 in<br />

Ann Arbor, Michigan.<br />

Nesbitt, Paul Raymond was born August 12, 1894 in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Renwick Joseph and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Jane (McKeague) Nesbitt. He attended<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> schools. Paul married Maye Geneva Jaynes and one daughter was born to<br />

this union: Carmen Verdelle (Nesbitt) Burkhardt. The family lived in Oskaloosa, Iowa<br />

for many years. Paul died in July 1969 in Oskaloosa.<br />

Nesbitt, Wallace Renwick was born August 10, 1925 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Wallace and Anastasia “Ann” (Clough) Nesbitt. He attended school in <strong>Hanover</strong>.<br />

Wallace married Maxine Gartman and one son was born to this union: William “Bill”<br />

Harold Nesbitt. The family lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> before they divorced. Wallace lived in
