Bastian, Orville William was born February 20, 1915 in Apple River, Illinois and was<br />

the son <strong>of</strong> Howard Sampson and Anna Louise (Stadel) Bastian. He married Alice<br />

Virginia Beadle on August 8, 1943 in Galena and three children were born to this<br />

union: John “Jack” William Bastian, Virginia Ann “V-Ann” (Bastian) Howard, and<br />

Robert “Bob” Lee Bastian. He was an ammunition inspector and demolition foreman<br />

for 35 years at the Savanna Army Depot, retiring July 1, 1976. Orville died March 12,<br />

1989 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Bauer, Gertrude Rose (Reitz) Bussan was born April 1, 1915 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> George Herman and Helen Abigail (Lisk) Reitz. Gertrude married Joseph<br />

Edwin Bussan in Galena and four children were born to this union: Helen Catherine<br />

(Bussan) Gaber, Joan Marie (Bussan) Smith, Barbara Loucille (Bussan) Swingle, and<br />

Herbert “Herb” Joseph Bussan. The family lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> in the early 1950s for four<br />

years and later moved to to Carroll County. The couple divoreced in 1954 and Gertrude<br />

married Arthur Bauer on November 29, 1957 in Shannon, Illinois. Gertrude was living<br />

in Shannon when she died August 21, 1997. She is buried in Chapel Hill Memorial<br />

Gardens, rural Freeport.<br />

Bauman, Merle D. was born June 16, 1924 in Freeport, Illinois and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

William J. and Vera Viola (Boop) Bauman. He attended school in Melrose Park and<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong>. Merle married Eleanor Ethel Kreul on February 2, 1945 in Fennimore,<br />

Wisconsin and one son was born to this union: Edward Bauman who died in infancy.<br />

He farmed in Derinda Township for 36 years and also worked for construction<br />

companies and the Savanna Army Depot as a surveillance inspector. He and his wife<br />

spent most <strong>of</strong> their married life in the <strong>Hanover</strong> and Elizabeth area, moving to Stockton<br />

after selling their farm in 1996. Merle died February 14, 2008 and is buried in Prairie<br />

Cemetery, Fennimore.<br />

Bauman, Vera Viola (Boop) was born January 26, 1904 in Pearl City, Illinois and was<br />

the daughter <strong>of</strong> Frank and Clara (Auman) Boop. She married William J. Bauman and<br />

they had one son: Merle D. Bauman. They farmed in the <strong>Hanover</strong> area. Vera was<br />

living in Freeport when she died on June 17, 1980. She is buried in Evergreen<br />

Cemetery.<br />

Bausch, Lonnie G. was born January 6, 1954 in Dubuque, Iowa and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

George H. and Agnes M. (Schneider) Bausch. He graduated from Cassville, Wisconsin<br />

High School in 1972. He worked at Eagle Ridge Inn, Galena, the Big 10 Mart and the<br />

Lunch Box Bakery, both in East Dubuque. Lonnie lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a few years and<br />

was briefly married to Amy (Goldhagen) Burfield. Lonnie was living in Dubuque when<br />

he died on June 29, 2009. He is buried in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville.<br />

Bawden, Marie Elizabeth (Martin) was born May 17, 1892 near Rodden, Elizabeth<br />

Township, Jo Daviess County and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> James and Jennie F. (Mills)<br />

Martin. She married Albert John Bawden on November 23, 1910 and three children<br />

were born to this union: Pearl (Bawden) Bennett, Edna (Bawden) Chapin, and<br />

Lawrence Bawden. They lived in the Elizabeth and <strong>Hanover</strong> area until moving to<br />

Ashland, Wisconsin in 1924. Albert died June 15, 1961 in St. Louis, Minnesota. Marie<br />

died October 31, 1987 in Ashland and is buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Ashland.<br />

Beach, Eleanor (Root) was born July 23, 1903 in Southern Pines, North Carolina and<br />
