daughter <strong>of</strong> Forrest Hatch and Mary Elilzabeth (Schmidt) Turner. She married George<br />
Orma “Orm” Winter on May 12, 1928 in Galena and three sons were born to this union:<br />
George Forrest “Frosty” Winter, John Turner Winter, and James Waddington Winter.<br />
They also adopted one daughter: Kay Marlene (Winter) Smith and were foster parents<br />
to numerous children through the years. Sarah lived most <strong>of</strong> her adult life in <strong>Hanover</strong>.<br />
She died September 16, 1984 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Witt, Una (Picha) was born March 18, 1919 in Eastman, Wisconsin and was the<br />
daughter <strong>of</strong> Wencel James and Emma B. (Koepp) Picha. She graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong><br />
High School in 1938. Una married Ervin Leroy Witt and two sons were born to this<br />
union: Ervin Witt and Guy Witt. The family lived in Rockford for many years. Una<br />
died January 22, 2000.<br />
Wojan, Richard C. was born May 15, 1925 in DePere, Wisconsin and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />
Richard and Louise Wojan. He taught biology and general science in <strong>Hanover</strong> High<br />
School from 1949 until 1953. Richard died June 13, 1970 in Cudahy, Wisconsin.<br />
Wolbers, Melba Irene (Sarff) Murphy was born May 31, 1912 in Browerville,<br />
Minnesota and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Vallandingham and Esther Amanda (Johnson) Sarff.<br />
She graduated from Browerville High School in 1931. Melba married Martin Raleigh<br />
Murphy on September 20, 1935 in Eyota, Minnesota and four children were born to this<br />
union: Patricia Ann (Murphy) Smith, Martin Leroy Murphy, Pearl Irene (Murphy)<br />
Hamil, and Lynda Lue (Murphy) Carson. In 1941 the family moved to <strong>Hanover</strong>. Her<br />
husband Martin was killed in the line <strong>of</strong> duty on March 4, 1945 in Germany during<br />
World War <strong>II</strong>. Melba later married Leland “Lee” Bernard Wolbers on September 6,<br />
1950 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and one son was born to this union: Dennis Lee Wolbers. Melba died<br />
February 25, 2002 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Wolcott, Lawrence Alden was born April 2, 1914 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son <strong>of</strong> Alden<br />
Ellsworth and Sadie Elizabeth (Peschang) Wolcott. His father worked in the woolen<br />
mill business and moved his family from <strong>Hanover</strong> to California, Missouri in 1924. In<br />
1930 the family moved to Portland, Oregon and in 1935 returned to <strong>Hanover</strong>. Lawrence<br />
had his own TV & radio repair business and also worked as an electrical technician for<br />
Eaton Corporation for many years. Lawrence died May 31, 1984 and is buried in<br />
Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Wolf, Lawrence was born July 10, 1907 in Boscobel, Wisconsin and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />
Louis and Louise Wolf. He was a World War <strong>II</strong> Veteran. He married Genevieve<br />
(Tyler) Wilkenson in Richland Center, Wisconsin and two daughters were born to this<br />
union: Florence Darlene (Wolf) Pettera and Zonie “Cookie” M. (Wolf) Ryniewicz. He<br />
was a retired farmer and had lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a time. Lawrence died September 24,<br />
1983 and is buried in Boscobel Cemetery.<br />
Wolter, Leo Edward was born January 31, 1938 in Guttenberg, Iowa and was the son<br />
<strong>of</strong> Michael Leo and June Rose (Jacobs) Wolter. He attended St. Mary’s School in<br />
Guttenberg and served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 until 1959. Leo was married and<br />
divorced several times and he had five children: Dennis Wolter, Becky (Wolter) Orte,<br />
Suzanne Wolter, Jamie Wolter, and Lori Wolter. Leo was a construction supervisor for<br />
commercial properties in St. Paul, Minnesota for many years prior to his retirement. He<br />
lived in Clinton, Iowa for a number <strong>of</strong> years before moving to <strong>Hanover</strong>. Leo died<br />
February 10, 1994 and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Clinton.<br />
