Arnold, Mabelle Claire was born April 12, 1877 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the daughter <strong>of</strong><br />

William and Anna (McAllister) Arnold. Mabelle graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School<br />

in 1894. Mabelle died September 21, 1958 in Los Angeles, California.<br />

Artman, Ruth Marilyn (Flury) was born April 27, 1926 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Glenn and Dorothy Alma (Wadleigh) Flury. She graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

High School in 1944. Ruth married William “Bill” Francis Artman on March 10, 1951<br />

in Savanna and this union gave her one stepdaughter, Lynette (Artman) Haislet, and two<br />

children were born to this union: Wayne Edward Artman and Nancy Sue (Artman)<br />

Voss. The family lived in Freeport, Illinois and Ruth’s employment included Northwest<br />

Telephone, Western State Insurance Company, Montgomery Ward, and the Freeport<br />

School District. William died January 19, 2004 and Ruth died April 4, 2007. They are<br />

both buried in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.<br />

Atkins, Elvira Ellen (Bender) Lampe was born December 18, 1900 in Sabula, Iowa<br />

and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Hiram John and Emily May Melvina (Connett) Bender. Elvira<br />

was educated in the rural Clinton County, Iowa schools. She married Loyal Lampe in<br />

1918 in Maquoketa, Iowa. She later married George Atkins on March 28, 1937 in<br />

Clinton, Iowa. Elvira had seven children: Roberta (Lampe) Saylor, Laneda (Lampe)<br />

Greenwaldt, Ardelle Betty Maxine (Lampe) Kramer, Thelma (Lampe) VanZuiden, Rita<br />

(Lampe) Bentley-Garshok, Fred Lampe, and Richard Lampe. Elvira and George farmed<br />

in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and Galena for a number <strong>of</strong> years and later moved to Fulton, Illinois.<br />

Elvira died July 1, 1985 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Bailey, Betty I. (Hoy) was born November 21, 1921 in Thomson, Illinois and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Clem and Esther B. (Plattenberger) Hoy. She graduated from York<br />

Community High School in 1939. Betty married Lyle E. Bailey on March 26, 1940 in<br />

Savanna and two children were born to this union: Gary Bailey and Sandra A. (Bailey)<br />

Miller. Betty managed the Savanna school lunch program for 13 years. Betty died<br />

September 18, 2009; she was cremated and buried in Lost Mound Cemetery.<br />

Bailey, Carl was born February 3, 1930 in Taskee, Missouri and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Columbus Jefferson and Mae (Kellums) Bailey. He was a Veteran <strong>of</strong> the U.S. Army<br />

serving during the Korean War. Carl married Kay Arleen Miller and five children were<br />

born to this union: Carlene (Bailey) Wickler, Cheryl Bailey, Douglas Bailey, Gregory<br />

Bailey, and Georgina Bailey. He was a timber man working in the <strong>Hanover</strong> and<br />

Savanna area for more than 30 years. Carl died June 5, 2003 and is buried in Evergreen<br />

Cemetery.<br />

Bailey, Dorothy Irene (Quackenbush) was born September 19, 1917 in Grand<br />

Meadow, Minnesota and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Lambert William and Amy Eunice (Tabor)<br />

Quackenbush. She married Glenn Rolland Bailey and three children were born to this<br />

union: Rolland Bailey, Kay (Bailey) Topham, and Glenna Bailey. Dorothy lived in<br />

Blanding,Illinois, Savanna, Illinois, and later in Boonville, Arkansas. Dorothy died<br />

April 15, 1982; she was cremated and buried in Lost Mound Cemetery.<br />

Bailey, Genevieve Virginia (Garrow) was born April 13, 1915 in Savanna, Illinois and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Alvin “Crappie” Austin and Mettie Ione (Lego) Garrow. The<br />

family moved to rural <strong>Hanover</strong> in 1924 and to the village <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hanover</strong> in 1933.<br />

Genevieve married Leslie Lester Bailey and three children were born to this union:<br />

Patsy (Bailey) Raab, Wesley Bailey, and Richard Bailey. Genevieve and Leslie later<br />

divorced. She worked for the telephone company in Savanna until she retired in 1977.<br />
