Sevey, Aaron Dean was born July 1, 1962 in Savanna, Illinois and was the son <strong>of</strong> Dean<br />
“Woody” Douglas and Nancy Eugenia (Bourrette) Sevey. He graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong><br />
High School in 1980 and from Wyoming Technical Institute in Laramie, Wyoming<br />
becoming a Certified Diesel Mechanic. He married Jane Lawson on September 1, 1984<br />
in Derinda, Illinois and two children were born to this union: Mallory Ann (Sevey)<br />
Buck and James Dean Sevey. Aaron enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age <strong>of</strong> 27 and<br />
served for almost 20 years. Aaron was a Sergeant First Class serving in Operation Iraqi<br />
Freedom. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Aaron was living in<br />
Colorado Springs, Colorado when he died on January 8, 2011; he was cremated and<br />
buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Sevey, Dean “Woody” Douglas was born January 28, 1935 in Elkader, Iowa and was<br />
the son <strong>of</strong> Clyde John and Frana Ann (Meier) Sevey. He was raised in the Black Hawk<br />
Village just outside <strong>of</strong> the Savanna Army Depot and graduated from Savanna High<br />
School in 1953. Woody was a Korean War U.S. Navy Veteran. He graduated from Tri-<br />
State College in Angola, Indiana in 1959. He was married to Nancy Eugenia Bourrette<br />
and five children were born to that union: Aaron Dean Sevey, Kevin Clyde Sevey, Kent<br />
Brian Sevey who died in infancy, Trevor Lee Sevey, and Renee (Sevey) Wand. He<br />
worked at the Savanna Army Depot and transferred to the Rock Island Arsenal in 1977,<br />
retiring April 3, 1993 after working 37 years for the government. Woody died August 3,<br />
2002 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Sevey, Jean Ellen was born June 14, 1943 in Dubuque, Iowa and was the daughter <strong>of</strong><br />
Clyde John and Frana Ann (Meier) Sevey. She graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in<br />
1961. Jean lived in Dubuque, Iowa for many years and worked at the Kennedy Mall and<br />
at Stonehill Care Center as a licensed practical nurse for many years. At the time <strong>of</strong> her<br />
death she was attending Northwest Iowa Community College in Peosta to become a<br />
medical transcriptionist. She had two sons: Richard “Rich” Kent Myers and Clyde<br />
Thomas Kay. Jean died April 16, 2002; she was cremated and buried in Evergreen<br />
Cemetery.<br />
Shafer, Dorothy Lucinda (Hatfield) was born February 16, 1908 in Savanna, Illinois<br />
and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Charles H. and Martha Sarah (Sigafus) Hatfield. She married<br />
William Seith Shafer on April 7, 1926 in Chadwick, Illinois and six children were born<br />
to this union: James Harvey Shafer, who died in infacy, Lillian Louise (Shafer) Tonne,<br />
Mary Elizabeth (Shafer) Fulrath, Gordon William Shafer, David Eugene Shafer, and<br />
Margaret Ann Shafer. The family moved to rural <strong>Hanover</strong> in 1936. Dorothy worked at<br />
the Savanna Army Depot and later was employed as a janitor for Eaton Corporation in<br />
<strong>Hanover</strong>. Dorothy died February 6, 1998 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Shafer, Gordon “Gordy” William was born November 23, 1937 in Savanna, Illinois<br />
and was the son <strong>of</strong> William Seith and Dorothy Lucinda (Hatfield) Shafer. He attended<br />
<strong>Hanover</strong> Public Schools and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. Gordy worked on many ranches<br />
in the Southwest United States and also on farms in the <strong>Hanover</strong> area. Gordy died<br />
March 2011 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
Shamp, Lawrence “Larry” Joseph was born January 8, 1961 and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />
Robert Parrie and Geraldine (Marsh) Shamp. Lawrence spent his early years in <strong>Hanover</strong><br />
and later moved to Savanna with his family. He died as the result <strong>of</strong> a one-car accident<br />
north <strong>of</strong> Savanna on May 16, 1982. Lawrence is buried in Savanna Township<br />
Cemetery.
