then became the founder and owner <strong>of</strong> Eastrich Printing & Sales in Freeport. His wife<br />

Luella was born September 24, 1904 and died October 18, 1983. Frank died<br />

September 6, 1978 and they are both buried in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeport.<br />

Eastman, Gayle Leona (Gilman) was born October 24, 1924 in Savanna, Illinois and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Robert H. and Leona Ruth (Helbling) Gilman Sr. She graduated<br />

from Savanna High School in 1942. Gayle married Charles Kenneth Joseph Eastman on<br />

May 17, 1947 in Monmouth, Illinois and two daughters were born to this union: Nancy<br />

Eileen (Eastman) Wernet and Karen Joyce (Eastman) Cliff. Gayle worked at Eaton<br />

Corporation from 1965 until 1973. Gayle died March 28, 2006 and is buried in<br />

Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Eastman, Lawrence “Larry” Earl was born April 6, 1921 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son<br />

<strong>of</strong> Albert Guy and Francis Ellen “Ella” (Whalen) Eastman. He attended Matheson<br />

Country School and graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1939. Larry was a World<br />

War <strong>II</strong> U.S. Army Veteran and flew 79 missions as a Fighter-Bomber Pilot. His plane<br />

was shot down on two separate missions and he was awarded the Purple Heart. He<br />

married Mildred Arlene Veme on October 16, 1948 in Savanna and three children were<br />

born to this union: Judith “Judy” Ann (Eastman) Jackson, Jeffrey Allen Eastman, and<br />

Joann Ellen Eastman. Larry graduated from the Northwestern Police Academy and was<br />

an Illinois State Policeman for more than 30 years when he retired as a Lieutenant in<br />

1978. He served on the <strong>Hanover</strong> Village Board and the <strong>Hanover</strong> Township Library<br />

Board. Larry died July 12, 2006 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Eastman, Raymond Josephus was born July 5, 1915 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Albert Guy and Francis Ellen “Ella” (Whalen) Eastman. He married Edith Berneice<br />

Bertsch on May 28, 1940 in Clinton, Iowa and two daughters were born to this union:<br />

Joan Eastman, who died in infancy, and Donna Rae (Eastman) Dunham. His wife Edith<br />

died March 15, 1968, and he later married Nellie Lorraine “Rene” (Burke) Bertsch on<br />

August 29, 1969 in <strong>Hanover</strong>. Ray was a World War <strong>II</strong> U.S. Army Veteran. He worked<br />

as a supervisor at the Savanna Army Depot for 30 years, retiring in 1975. He also<br />

operated Ray’s Super Value Store in <strong>Hanover</strong> from 1958 until 1965 and farmed. He<br />

was killed when his tractor rolled over on to him on June 9, 1994 and is buried in<br />

Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Edgerton, Vivian Eldora (Whittington) was born in June 30, 1918 in Mercer County,<br />

Illinois and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Clifford Sumner and Laurel Cyntitha (Sullivan)<br />

Whittington. She married Earl Steel Edgerton on March 21, 1942 in Davenport, Iowa<br />

and six children were born to this union: Don Emmett Edgerton, Thomas Allen<br />

Edgerton who died in infancy, Ada Marie (Edgerton) Fisher, Dean Dwain Edgerton,<br />

Etta Mae Edgerton who died in infancy, and Verda Elaine (Edgerton) Gochee. They<br />

farmed in the <strong>Hanover</strong> area for many years and Vivian worked for Eaton Corporation<br />

until 1998. Vivian moved to rural Savanna after she retired in 1998. Vivian died<br />

December 8, 2010; a memorial service was held in <strong>Hanover</strong> and creamtion rites were<br />

accorded with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Edwards, Betty Lou (Chapman) was born May 20, 1929 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Clarence Charles and Della Rose (Kirchner) Chapman. She married<br />

William Edwards Jr. on August 28, 1948 in Mount Carroll and nine children were born<br />

to this union: Joyce Arlene (Edwards) Bork, Debra Edwards, Peggy Edwards, Nancy<br />

(Edwards) Williams, Thomas Edwards, Gary Edwards, Billy Edwards, Terry Edwards,<br />
