Luella was born September 24, 1904 and died October 18, 1983. Frank died
September 6, 1978 and they are both buried in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeport.
Eastman, Gayle Leona (Gilman) was born October 24, 1924 in Savanna, Illinois and
was the daughter of Robert H. and Leona Ruth (Helbling) Gilman Sr. She graduated
from Savanna High School in 1942. Gayle married Charles Kenneth Joseph Eastman on
May 17, 1947 in Monmouth, Illinois and two daughters were born to this union: Nancy
Eileen (Eastman) Wernet and Karen Joyce (Eastman) Cliff. Gayle worked at Eaton
Corporation from 1965 until 1973. Gayle died March 28, 2006 and is buried in
Evergreen Cemetery.
Eastman, Lawrence “Larry” Earl was born April 6, 1921 in Hanover and was the son
of Albert Guy and Francis Ellen “Ella” (Whalen) Eastman. He attended Matheson
Country School and graduated from Hanover High School in 1939. Larry was a World
War II U.S. Army Veteran and flew 79 missions as a Fighter-Bomber Pilot. His plane
was shot down on two separate missions and he was awarded the Purple Heart. He
married Mildred Arlene Veme on October 16, 1948 in Savanna and three children were
born to this union: Judith “Judy” Ann (Eastman) Jackson, Jeffrey Allen Eastman, and
Joann Ellen Eastman. Larry graduated from the Northwestern Police Academy and was
an Illinois State Policeman for more than 30 years when he retired as a Lieutenant in
1978. He served on the Hanover Village Board and the Hanover Township Library
Board. Larry died July 12, 2006 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Eastman, Raymond Josephus was born July 5, 1915 in Hanover and was the son of
Albert Guy and Francis Ellen “Ella” (Whalen) Eastman. He married Edith Berneice
Bertsch on May 28, 1940 in Clinton, Iowa and two daughters were born to this union:
Joan Eastman, who died in infancy, and Donna Rae (Eastman) Dunham. His wife Edith
died March 15, 1968, and he later married Nellie Lorraine “Rene” (Burke) Bertsch on
August 29, 1969 in Hanover. Ray was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran. He worked
as a supervisor at the Savanna Army Depot for 30 years, retiring in 1975. He also
operated Ray’s Super Value Store in Hanover from 1958 until 1965 and farmed. He
was killed when his tractor rolled over on to him on June 9, 1994 and is buried in
Evergreen Cemetery.
Edgerton, Vivian Eldora (Whittington) was born in June 30, 1918 in Mercer County,
Illinois and was the daughter of Clifford Sumner and Laurel Cyntitha (Sullivan)
Whittington. She married Earl Steel Edgerton on March 21, 1942 in Davenport, Iowa
and six children were born to this union: Don Emmett Edgerton, Thomas Allen
Edgerton who died in infancy, Ada Marie (Edgerton) Fisher, Dean Dwain Edgerton,
Etta Mae Edgerton who died in infancy, and Verda Elaine (Edgerton) Gochee. They
farmed in the Hanover area for many years and Vivian worked for Eaton Corporation
until 1998. Vivian moved to rural Savanna after she retired in 1998. Vivian died
December 8, 2010; a memorial service was held in Hanover and creamtion rites were
accorded with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Edwards, Betty Lou (Chapman) was born May 20, 1929 in Hanover and was the
daughter of Clarence Charles and Della Rose (Kirchner) Chapman. She married
William Edwards Jr. on August 28, 1948 in Mount Carroll and nine children were born
to this union: Joyce Arlene (Edwards) Bork, Debra Edwards, Peggy Edwards, Nancy
(Edwards) Williams, Thomas Edwards, Gary Edwards, Billy Edwards, Terry Edwards,
