Grummitt, Virginia Mae (Thompson) was born July 9, 1922 in Savanna, Illinois and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> William Amos and Magdalena “Lena” (Wurster) Thompson. She<br />

married Harold William Grummitt on April 20, 1941 and three children were born to<br />

this union: William James Grummitt, Sandra Lee (Grummitt) Allen, and Ruth Ann<br />

(Grummitt) James. They lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a number <strong>of</strong> years before moving to<br />

Savanna. Virginia and her husband operated Grummitt’s Tap for 15 years on Fourth<br />

Street in Savanna. Virginia died July 23, 1996 and cremation rites were accorded.<br />

Grummitt, William James was born October 3, 1942 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Harold William and Virginia Mae (Thompson) Grummitt. The family moved to<br />

Savanna when William was a young boy in the 1950s. He worked at the Savanna Army<br />

Depot for a number <strong>of</strong> years. William was married and divorced and had two children:<br />

William Grummitt and Tami Jo Grummitt. William died September 11, 1986; he was<br />

cremated and buried in the Savanna Township Cemetery.<br />

Guay, Gregory Russell was born April 21, 1948 in La Crosse, Wisconsin and was the<br />

son <strong>of</strong> Russell Charles and Velma Eloise (Whitney) Guay. He graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

High School in 1966 and attended Highland Community College in Freeport and<br />

Clinton Community College. Greg began working at the Savanna Army Depot in 1968<br />

and was a draftsman, supervisor, and engineering technician with the U.S. Army<br />

Defense Ammunition Center and School. Greg died June 18, 1995 and is buried in<br />

Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Guensler, Ira Carl was born June 25, 1899 in Stockton, Illinois and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Samuel S. and Francis M. (Simons) Guensler. The family moved to <strong>Hanover</strong> shortly<br />

after he was born and he attended the <strong>Hanover</strong> Public School. Ira married Blanche<br />

Myrtle Raymer on February 3, 1934 in La Porte, Indiana and one known child were<br />

born to this union. The couple divorced on September 21, 1945. Ira died December 24,<br />

1975 in Edgewater, Florida.<br />

Guenzler, Georgia “Kay” (Krick) was born December 1, 1939 in Decatur, Indiana and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Harry Krick and Florence (Shoe) Baty. Kay had two sons: Brett<br />

Guenzler and Timothy Guenzler. She lived in Savanna for many years and later in<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> for a time when she was working for Experience Works. Kay died June 4,<br />

2003 and is buried in Union Prairie Cemetery, Low Moor, Iowa.<br />

Guenzler, Janis Rachel (Gollobith) was born May 8, 1921 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Dr. Edward Frank and Ida Mary (Eadie) Gollobith. She graduated from<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1939. She married Floyd Leroy Guenzler on July 21, 1943 and<br />

two children were born to this union: Gordon Guenzler and Elaine Guenzler. The<br />

marriage ended in divorce. Janis lived in St. Petersburg, Florida for many years and died<br />

there in March 1994.<br />

Gugler, Buena Marguerite (Hancock) Ryder was born December 27, 1898 in<br />

Elizabeth, Illinois and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Freeman Eugene and Myrtle Mabel (Weston)<br />

Hancock. She married George Ryder on January 31, 1917 and two children were born<br />

to this union: Charlotte Lorraine (Ryder) Callahan Statham and LaVerne Melvin Ryder.<br />

George died in 1954 and she married Charles “Charlie” Samuel Gugler on September 5,<br />

1959 in Scales Mound. She lived most <strong>of</strong> her life in <strong>Hanover</strong>. Buena died October 21,<br />

1983 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
