Thomas, Helen Elisabeth (Moore) was born May 21, 1926 in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and was<br />

the daughter <strong>of</strong> James Wallace and Berniece (White) Moore. Helen attended the Black<br />

Country School, graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1944 where she served as the<br />

Senior Class President, and majored in music at Monmouth College. She married Ervin<br />

Robert Thomas on June 4, 1949 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and three children were born to this union:<br />

Nancy Jo Thomas, Carol Ann (Thomas) Teschner, and Verne Jay Thomas. The couple<br />

resided in Media, Illinois where Helen taught music at Media High School. They<br />

moved to the south side <strong>of</strong> Chicago and Helen worked at Fernwood Methodist Church<br />

and Calumet Park School District 132. The family moved to Country Club Hills,<br />

Illinois and Helen worked for United Christian Church. The family lived in Country<br />

Club Hills for many years. Helen died April 7, 1988; she was cremated and her ashes<br />

were spread over the Moore family farm in rural <strong>Hanover</strong>.<br />

Thompson, Blanche Mildred (Miller) was born July 24, 1898 in Woodbine Township,<br />

Jo Daviess County and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> George Jason and Evalena (Bainbridge)<br />

Miller. She married Joseph “Joe” Henry Thompson on September 20, 1922 in Dubuque,<br />

Iowa and two daughters were born to this union: Joyce Elaine (Thompson) Apsely and<br />

Norma Dell (Thompson) Egbert. They farmed in <strong>Hanover</strong> Township for many years.<br />

Blanche died January 13, 1981 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Thompson, Joseph “Joe” Henry was born June 18, 1899 in <strong>Hanover</strong> Township and<br />

was the son <strong>of</strong> Joseph and Fannie (Topping) Thompson. Joseph married Blanche<br />

Mildred Miller on September 20, 1922 in Dubuque, Iowa and two daughters were born<br />

to this union: Joyce Elaine (Thompson) Apsley and Norma Dell (Thompson) Egbert.<br />

Joseph farmed in <strong>Hanover</strong> Township all his life. Joseph died April 3, 1989 and is buried<br />

in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Thulen, Josephine “Joanna” Anne (Duffy) was born May 13, 1941 in Cascade, Iowa<br />

and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Bernard “Barney” H. and Bernadine Marie (Honerbaum) Duffy.<br />

The family moved to <strong>Hanover</strong> in the mid-1940s and Joanna attended school in <strong>Hanover</strong>.<br />

She married William “Bill” W. Thulen Sr. on July 12, 1958 in Savanna and three<br />

children were born to this union: Bernadine Renee (Thulen) Goodman, William Thulen<br />

Jr., and Rodney Thulen. The family lived in Savanna and Joanna worked at Products<br />

Unlimited in Sabula, Iowa for a number <strong>of</strong> years. Joanna died December 17, 1999 in<br />

Savanna and is buried in St. John’s Cemetery in Savanna.<br />

Thulen, LaVerne E. was born August 4, 1911 in Savanna, Illinois and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

John H. and Betsy (Schuller) Thulen. He was married to Mary Green, and later married<br />

Martha Hunt in East Dubuque; Martha died December 2, 1964. He had four children:<br />

Judy (Thulen) Hackett, Barbara (Thulen) Skimhorn, Joseph Thulen, and Gene Thulen.<br />

He lived in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> for a time. He worked in construction before owning and<br />

operating a salvage yard in Savanna for many years, retiring in 1985. LaVerne died<br />

September 7, 1995 and is buried in Savanna Township Cemetery.<br />

Thurman, Edwin Benton was born August 6, 1918 in Cleveland, Ohio and was the son<br />

<strong>of</strong> Edwin Benton and Mary Quayle (Terrill) Thurman Sr. He was married to Georgia<br />

Thurman and they had six children: Bruce Thurman, Edwin Thurman, Charles<br />

Thurman, Delight (Thurman) Hockman, Heidi (Thurman) Campbell, and Jennifer<br />

(Thurman) Alexander. Edwin was an attorney and general counsel for Pacific<br />

Companies in Chicago for a number <strong>of</strong> years. The family lived in Evanston before<br />

moving to rural <strong>Hanover</strong>. Edwin died September 22, 1990.
