Martin, Earl Hugh was born November 8, 1900 in Rodden, Elizabeth Township, Jo<br />

Daviess County and was the son <strong>of</strong> James and Jennie F. (Mills) Martin. He and his<br />

sister Jessie farmed in the Rodden area until 1967 when they moved into Elizabeth. Earl<br />

died December 10, 1984 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Martin, Ione Lois (Miner) was born March 14, 1921 in Redwood, Minnesota and was<br />

the daughter <strong>of</strong> George Franklin and Clara Pearl (Miller) Miner. At the age <strong>of</strong> four her<br />

parents moved to the Pearl City area and later to the <strong>Hanover</strong> area. She graduated from<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1939. Ione married Curtiss Martin on June 10, 1942 and two<br />

children were born to this union: Bettie Ann (Martin) Lee and James Allen Martin. She<br />

worked at the Savanna Army Depot during World War <strong>II</strong> as an inventory checker. After<br />

the war she helped farm with her husband and later worked at Eaton Corporation and<br />

Atwoods. She worked 31 years at the Elizabeth Nursing <strong>Home</strong> as a CNA on the third<br />

shift, retiring when she was 79 years old. Ione died August 24, 2002 and is buried in<br />

Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Martin, Jessie Mae was born November 18, 1903 in Rodden, Elizabeth Township, Jo<br />

Daviess County and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> James and Jennie F. (Mills) Martin. She and<br />

her brother Earl farmed in the Rodden area until 1967 when they moved into Elizabeth.<br />

Jessie died October 18, 1994 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Martin, Russell Wallace was born March 14, 1924 in Elizabeth, Illinois and was the<br />

son <strong>of</strong> James Wallace and Martha B. (Irwin) Martin. He graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High<br />

School in 1943. Russell served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Russell was<br />

the Postmaster at the <strong>Hanover</strong> Post Office from 1962 until 1979. He had served on the<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> Township Library Board for many years. Russell died December 26, 2002; he<br />

was cremated and his ashes were sprinkled over Lookout Point at the Mississippi<br />

Palisades Park.<br />

Marusek, Joseph William was born March 15, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois and was the<br />

son <strong>of</strong> Michael and Rose Catherine (Namjestnik) Marusek. He was a U.S. Army<br />

Veteran and a deliveryman for the Elizabeth Locker in Elizabeth. He lived in Chicago<br />

before moving to <strong>Hanover</strong>, where he made his home with his companion Betty<br />

Kiaurakis. Joseph died May 26, 1995 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Mason, Edmund Eugene was born December 8, 1935 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Bertha Mason. He married Annie Lea McGee on October 31, 1956 in Chesterfield,<br />

South Carolina. Edmund died December 27, 1993 in Clinton, Iowa and is buried in<br />

Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Mason, Hazel Loretta (Burke) was born September 16, 1906 in Elizabeth, Illinois and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Michael August and Harriett Ellen (Steele) Burke. Hazel was a<br />

graduate <strong>of</strong> Blackburn College, Carlinville, Illinois. She married George Mason in June<br />

1929 in Galena and one daughter was born to this union: Gloria (Mason) Olson. Hazel<br />

taught school in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and later worked as a clerk in the finance department at<br />

the Savanna Army Depot for 20 years before her retirement in 1973. Hazel died<br />

October 27, 1988 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Mason, Irene Louise (Bonjour) was born December 21, 1917 in Elizabeth, Illinois and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Raymond and Mary Elizabeth “Lizzy” (Baumgartner) Bonjour. She<br />

married Thomas Arthur Mason on August 12, 1935. She lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> most <strong>of</strong> her<br />

adult life. Irene died October 5, 1984 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
