Martin, Earl Hugh was born November 8, 1900 in Rodden, Elizabeth Township, Jo
Daviess County and was the son of James and Jennie F. (Mills) Martin. He and his
sister Jessie farmed in the Rodden area until 1967 when they moved into Elizabeth. Earl
died December 10, 1984 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Martin, Ione Lois (Miner) was born March 14, 1921 in Redwood, Minnesota and was
the daughter of George Franklin and Clara Pearl (Miller) Miner. At the age of four her
parents moved to the Pearl City area and later to the Hanover area. She graduated from
Hanover High School in 1939. Ione married Curtiss Martin on June 10, 1942 and two
children were born to this union: Bettie Ann (Martin) Lee and James Allen Martin. She
worked at the Savanna Army Depot during World War II as an inventory checker. After
the war she helped farm with her husband and later worked at Eaton Corporation and
Atwoods. She worked 31 years at the Elizabeth Nursing Home as a CNA on the third
shift, retiring when she was 79 years old. Ione died August 24, 2002 and is buried in
Evergreen Cemetery.
Martin, Jessie Mae was born November 18, 1903 in Rodden, Elizabeth Township, Jo
Daviess County and was the daughter of James and Jennie F. (Mills) Martin. She and
her brother Earl farmed in the Rodden area until 1967 when they moved into Elizabeth.
Jessie died October 18, 1994 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Martin, Russell Wallace was born March 14, 1924 in Elizabeth, Illinois and was the
son of James Wallace and Martha B. (Irwin) Martin. He graduated from Hanover High
School in 1943. Russell served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Russell was
the Postmaster at the Hanover Post Office from 1962 until 1979. He had served on the
Hanover Township Library Board for many years. Russell died December 26, 2002; he
was cremated and his ashes were sprinkled over Lookout Point at the Mississippi
Palisades Park.
Marusek, Joseph William was born March 15, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois and was the
son of Michael and Rose Catherine (Namjestnik) Marusek. He was a U.S. Army
Veteran and a deliveryman for the Elizabeth Locker in Elizabeth. He lived in Chicago
before moving to Hanover, where he made his home with his companion Betty
Kiaurakis. Joseph died May 26, 1995 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mason, Edmund Eugene was born December 8, 1935 in Hanover and was the son of
Bertha Mason. He married Annie Lea McGee on October 31, 1956 in Chesterfield,
South Carolina. Edmund died December 27, 1993 in Clinton, Iowa and is buried in
Evergreen Cemetery.
Mason, Hazel Loretta (Burke) was born September 16, 1906 in Elizabeth, Illinois and
was the daughter of Michael August and Harriett Ellen (Steele) Burke. Hazel was a
graduate of Blackburn College, Carlinville, Illinois. She married George Mason in June
1929 in Galena and one daughter was born to this union: Gloria (Mason) Olson. Hazel
taught school in rural Hanover and later worked as a clerk in the finance department at
the Savanna Army Depot for 20 years before her retirement in 1973. Hazel died
October 27, 1988 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mason, Irene Louise (Bonjour) was born December 21, 1917 in Elizabeth, Illinois and
was the daughter of Raymond and Mary Elizabeth “Lizzy” (Baumgartner) Bonjour. She
married Thomas Arthur Mason on August 12, 1935. She lived in Hanover most of her
adult life. Irene died October 5, 1984 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
