October 29, 1979 in Clinton, Iowa. In her earlier years Maxine owned and operated a<br />

boarding house on Bowen Street in Savanna. She operated the Trackside Café from<br />

1954 until 1967, and her last employment was as a waitress at the Townhouse Café,<br />

both in Savanna. They lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a time and later moved to Savanna. In her<br />

later years Maxine moved to Sabula, Iowa. Maxine died March 12, 1995 and is buried<br />

in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson.<br />

Hebert, Rita May (Baker) was born March 15, 1927 in Dubuque, Iowa and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Archie Alvin and Ada Margaret (Slattery) Baker. She married Emery John<br />

Hebert in November 1949 in Dubuque and six children were born to this union:<br />

Thomas Emery Hebert, Carol Ann Hebert, Elizabeth “Betty” June (Hebert) Wurster,<br />

Bonnie Jean (Hebert) Folks, Edward John Hebert, and Richard George Hebert. The<br />

couple moved to <strong>Hanover</strong> a few years after their marriage and Rita worked at various<br />

jobs before she retired in 1982. Rita died August 14, 2008 and is buried in Mount<br />

Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque.<br />

Hedeman, Embert George was born January 15, 1913 in Clayton County, Iowa and<br />

was the son <strong>of</strong> Elmer and Mathilda (Erhardt) Hedeman. He married Zelda Mary<br />

Margarette Gull and three known sons were born to this union: Norman Embert<br />

Hedeman, Roger Owen Hedeman, and Donald Hedeman. He was a World War <strong>II</strong> U.S.<br />

Army Veteran. The family lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> in the 1940s and 50s. Embert died March<br />

12, 1999 in Guttenberg, Iowa.<br />

Hedeman, Norman Embert was born September 18, 1932 in Guttenburg, Iowa and<br />

was the son <strong>of</strong> Embert George and Zelda Mary Magarette (Gull) Hedeman. He<br />

graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1950. Norm and Betty Ann Hedman had two<br />

children: Lyle Hedeman and Troye Ann Hedeman. Norm serviced in the U.S. Air<br />

Force for many years and also worked in electronics at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.<br />

Norm died May 25, 2001 in Crestview, Florida.<br />

Hedeman, Zelda Mary Margarette (Gull) was born March 12, 1912 in Mallory, Iowa<br />

and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> John Oscar and Alberta Elizabeth (Hansel) Gull. She married<br />

Embert George Hedeman and three known children were born to this union: Norman<br />

Embert Hedeman, Roger Owen Hedeman, and Donald Hedeman. The family lived in<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> in the 1940s and 50s. Zelda died August 17, 2006 in Guttenberg. Iowa.<br />

Hedley, Lois J. (Cooley) was born August 21, 1924 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the daughter <strong>of</strong><br />

Frederick W. and Anna Cooley. She was married to Robert L. Hedley and they had<br />

seven children: Mary Jo (Hedley) Kirchner, Cynthia “Cindy” (Hedley) Stumpf, Bunny<br />

(Hedley) Griffin, Robert L. Hedley, Fredrick D. Hedley, James D. Hedley, and Jeffrey<br />

“Jay” Hedley. Lois lived most <strong>of</strong> her adult life in Dubuque. She died June 5, 1980 in<br />

Dubuque and is buried in Dubuque Memorial Gardens.<br />

Heer, Marion Briggs (Bergman) was born February 23, 1913 in Galena, Illinois and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Louis M. and Mattie B. (Newsome) Bergman. She married<br />

Raymond William Heer on September 27, 1943 in Derinda and one daughter was born<br />

to this union: Martha (Heer) Northrop. She was a teacher, beginning her career at<br />

Massbach School. She then went to the Derinda School, where she taught all grades, to<br />

the Elizabeth School, where she taught fourth grade, and to <strong>Hanover</strong>, where she taught<br />

seventh grade until 1972. Marion was a substitute teacher until 1977 when she totally<br />

retired from teaching. She and her husband farmed in Derinda for many years.<br />

Raymond died December 1, 1981 and Marion died June 21, 1992. They are both buried<br />
