Hines on July 11, 1953 in Dubuque and six children were born to this union: Suzanne<br />

Margaret (Spahn) Burke, Sharon Ellizabeth (Spahn) Stratton, Michael “Mike” Joseph<br />

Spahn, Sheila Marie (Spahn) Morales, Jolene Marie (Spahn) Bastian, and Warren Mark<br />

Spahn. Joe was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He lived<br />

in East Dubuque and Dubuque and worked at H & W Trucking Company before moving<br />

to <strong>Hanover</strong> in 1999. Joe died January 20, 2006 and is buried in Dubuque Memorial<br />

Gardens.<br />

Spaide, Sophia Primrose (Crawford) was born April 19, 1907 in Carn, County<br />

Monaghan, Ireland and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> John and Sophia (Mills) Crawford. The<br />

family came to America in 1908 and farmed in Rice Township. She graduated from<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1924, attended Brown’s Business College in Freeport, and was<br />

a graduate <strong>of</strong> Finley Hospital School <strong>of</strong> Nursing in 1929. She married Russell Spaide in<br />

1931 and one daughter was born to this union: Jeanette L. (Spaide) Gettemy. Sophia<br />

worked at Freeport Memorial Hospital for 19 years when she retired in 1969. The<br />

family lived in Freeport, Illinois for many years. Russell died July 23, 1981 and Sophia<br />

died November 19, 2004. They are both buried in Oakland Cemetery, Freeport.<br />

Speaker, Joseph “Joe” Ralph was born February 3, 1957 in Savanna, Illinois and was<br />

the son <strong>of</strong> Ralph Arthur and Mary Isabel (McDonald) Speaker. Joe graduated from<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1975. He married Beth Ellen Nadig on June 11, 1983 in<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong>. Joe was a maintenance man at Chestnut Mountain Resort for 10 years and he<br />

also farmed. Joe died on July 28, 1986 as the result <strong>of</strong> an accident when a ladder he was<br />

standing on fell at Chestnut Mountain Resort. Joe is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Speaker, Mary Isabel (McDonald) was born August 9, 1924 in Kankakee, Illinois and<br />

was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Harlan Fredrick and Isabelle Catherine (Campbell) McDonald. She<br />

graduated from Galena High School in 1942. She married Ralph Arthur Speaker on<br />

August 24, 1943 in Galena and seven children were born to this union: Kathryn Mary<br />

(Speaker) O’Haver, Robert David Speaker, Jane Ann (Speaker) Aschenbrenner, Susan<br />

Margaret Speaker, Joseph “Joe” Ralph Speaker, Michael Thomas Speaker, and Mary<br />

Speaker an infant daughter who died November 28, 1961. They farmed in <strong>Hanover</strong> for<br />

many years. Mary died July 16, 1992 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Speaker, Ralph Arthur was born February 19, 1922 in Vinegar Hill Township, Jo<br />

Daviess County and was the son <strong>of</strong> Joseph Bernard and Laura K. (Wiederhold) Speaker.<br />

He married Mary Isabel McDonald on August 24, 1943 in Galena and seven children<br />

were born to this union: Kathryn Mary (Speaker) O’Haver, Robert David Speaker, Jane<br />

Ann (Speaker) Aschenbrenner, Susan Margaret Speaker, Joseph “Joe” Ralph Speaker,<br />

Michael Thomas Speaker, and Mary Speaker an infant daughter who died November 28,<br />

1961. Ralph farmed in <strong>Hanover</strong> for many years. Ralph died January 22, 1987 and is<br />

buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Spears, Roy was born March 2, 1942 in Davenport, Iowa and was the son <strong>of</strong> Roy and<br />

Leah (Hewitt) Spears. He lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a number <strong>of</strong> years. Roy died January 25,<br />

1985 and is buried in Lusk Memorial Cemetery, Albany, Illinois.<br />

Speer, Charles Kenneth was born March 23, 1908 rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Charles William and Fanny Flint (Edgerton) Speer. He graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High<br />

School in 1926 and attended Monmouth College for two years. He married Violet<br />

Shelly on June 12, 1935 and three children were born to this union: Marilyn<br />

LaVonne(Speer) McDonald, Marvin William Speer, and Donna Jean (Speer) Watson.
