Derinda and Pleasant Hill country schools. Violet married George Alfred Rodden on<br />

September 8, 1921 and three sons were born to this union: LeVerne George Rodden,<br />

Loren G. Rodden, and Jimmy Ray Rodden. The family lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a number<br />

<strong>of</strong> years before moving to Elizabeth. Violet worked at the Savanna Army Depot during<br />

World War <strong>II</strong>, as a waitress in Elizabeth for many years and at Eaton Corporation for 15<br />

years before she retired in 1980. Violet died January 8, 2008 and is buried in Elizabeth<br />

Cemetery.<br />

Roderick, Irma Josephine (Potter) was born November 10, 1903 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was<br />

the daughter <strong>of</strong> John James and Hannah Josephine (Kranbuhl) Potter. She married<br />

William Clyde Roderick on April 19, 1923 and they raised Sue Helen (Potter) Cooper<br />

from the age <strong>of</strong> two. Irma died April 25, 1986 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Roderick, William Clyde was born March 12, 1899 in Bloomington, Illinois and was<br />

the son <strong>of</strong> William Clyde and Emma (Winger) Roderick. He married Irma Josephine<br />

Potter on April 19, 1923 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and they raised Sue Helen (Potter) Cooper from the<br />

age <strong>of</strong> two. Clyde was a crane operator for 35 years before his retirement. Clyde died<br />

July 28, 1990 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Roe, Ronald “Ron” Siemen was born April 5, 1947 in Clinton, Iowa and was the son<br />

<strong>of</strong> Siemen and Vera Mae (Peters) Roe. The family moved to <strong>Hanover</strong> in the early 1960s<br />

and Ron graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1966. He was married to Marilyn<br />

Jean Weible for a number <strong>of</strong> years and two children were born to this union: Melissa<br />

Ann Roe and Jon Michael Roe. Ron worked as an inspector for Kelly-Springfield Tire<br />

Company in Freeport for 30 years before he retired in 1997. Ron died February 3, 2003<br />

and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Roe, Vera Mae (Peters) was born October 22, 1921 in Jackson City, Iowa and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Vance Leslie and Clara Dorothy (Schroeder) Peters. Vera was a registered<br />

nurse and served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army overseas during World War <strong>II</strong>.<br />

She married Siemen Roe on May 8, 1946 in Readlyn, Iowa and five children were born<br />

to this union: Ronald “Ron” Siemen Roe, Jane Vera (Roe) Mitchell, Dorothy Rose<br />

(Roe) Cook, Leslie William Roe, and Larry John Roe. The family moved to <strong>Hanover</strong> in<br />

the early 1960s. Vera died July 9, 1983 and is buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery,<br />

Bellevue, Iowa.<br />

Rogers, Alice A. (Gray) was born July 6, 1914 in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the daughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> Charles Edwin and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Ann (Virtue) Gray. She graduated from<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1933. Alice married Bennett “Ben” Campbell Rogers on<br />

September 28, 1938 in Clinton, Iowa and no children were born to this union. Alice and<br />

Ben owned and operated the C<strong>of</strong>fee Cup Café in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Alice<br />

later worked as a clerk at the Savanna Army Depot and owned and operated Alice’s<br />

Ceramics. She also helped Ben at Ben’s Tap and later they managed the bar at the<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> VFW. Alice died August 18, 2008 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Rogers, Bennett “Ben” Campbell was born September 13, 1916 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was<br />

the son <strong>of</strong> John James and Mabel Ibel (Donnelly) Rogers. He graduated from <strong>Hanover</strong><br />

High School in 1934. Ben married Alice A. Gray on September 28, 1938 in Clinton,<br />

Iowa and no children were born to this union. He was a World War <strong>II</strong> U.S. Army<br />

Veteran. He was the former owner <strong>of</strong> Ben’s Tavern and the C<strong>of</strong>fee Cup Restaurant,<br />

both in <strong>Hanover</strong>, and he managed the <strong>Hanover</strong> VFW for more than 20 years. Ben died<br />

January 2, 1992 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />
